Apologies if this is covered in another thread, I have had a look and can’t find the exact same query so hope you can help.

We have a £5k TUI holiday booked for late August and have paid £300 deposit so far and are due to pay the remaining £900 deposit by next Wednesday.

I understand from similar threads that we are best to pay the balance as either it is cancelled and we will get full voucher/refund or it will go ahead.

However the issue I have that I can’t find the advice for, is that we have decided we would like to cancel now, due to the Coronavirus and various other anxieties, even if the holiday will be going ahead.

Please does anyone have any advice? It looks like if we cancel now we will still have to pay the full deposit of £1200. I naively thought the £300 was the deposit and that is all we would lose. :-( Can they make us pay the £900 by taking us to court or something? It also looks like if we transfer to next year that will be treated as a cancellation and will also have to lose full deposit of £1200.

So confused as the best thing to do, thanks in advance.

Hi,  apologies if this has been covered previously.  Booked package holiday to Spain in January, due to travel in early August (9 people travelling), paid first part of low deposit scheme at time of booking.  2nd part of this deposit payment due today. For various reasons we have just cancelled the holiday.  Initial payment was made using my debit card.  Does TUI have continuous payment authority on debit card payments?  The cancellation email they sent me is very vague.

It may be useful for both of you to read the last post on page 50 of this thread.

Should I pay the balance of my holiday?
There have been many posts on here asking this ^^^^ question.
    MSE have now addressed this.

I've booked a summer holiday but not paid in full yet - should I pay the balance?

This is a big decision for many who've paid deposits for trips and are currently being asked to pay the remainder or another installment, particularly on summer holidays. Sadly there is no right answer here - all we can do is help you weigh it up.

Ultimately it's a decision for you to make, and there's no clear answer.
Read the article and make your own decision.

Yes  - there's one on their website. Wait times can be long though.

Cannot get through to Tui at all, its either engaged or they give me another number to ring for refunds which is not picking up

Does anyone know for sure if I lodge a small claims court claim that I would get the court fee back or not?

It will be quicker to simply keep trying the number.

Will be many many months before a small claims will reach courts

Your original holiday date was August.

You cancelled the holiday in march but they are working in departure order.

They will get round to you

Important. Travel firms' call centres are swamped right now, so weigh up when's best to call. As you'd expect, airlines, package holiday firms, travel insurers and more are dealing with a massive volume of queries at the moment.

If your trip's not for a few months, you may want to wait to get in touch, though of course there's always a risk things could change in the meantime as this is such as fast-moving situation. If your trip's imminent, you're abroad right now or you need urgent assistance, unfortunately you may not be prepared to wait.

From the MSE article - link in my earlier post at the top of this thread.
