  • As a comparison Jet2 have been fantastic...my family holiday was refunded immediately worth over 5K
I dont understand those who say they owe you a holiday not cash ...yes they owe a holiday at the date and place booked.
People should not be made to feel bad for wanting a refund which is their right.
As a family we all struggle to book time off at the same time ..in theory we have no idea if we will still be on this earth next year
I will absolutely book with Jet2 again even more so than ever if and when I can but in my own time

I have a holiday booked for 11th of July. I have paid £500 with a further £500 due tomorrow and then a further £6000 in 5 days time. I am wary about paying anymore money to Tui, as I can’t see the holiday going ahead and I don’t want to be stuck with a holiday voucher which I might not be able to use. Any advice?

If you want to waive all rights to getting your deposit back, crack on.

In any case it sounds like you have bought it under the Low Deposit Scheme if you have to make a small payment tomorrow? In which case if you dont pay that then you havent even paid all the deposit and they can take you to court to get it.

Think I would rather lose 500 -1k then possibly  lose 7k.  I just think they are wrong in trying to take money off people, which  they probably won’t refund when the holiday becomes cancelled.  If you opt to amend the holiday for a latter date you are then not covered for covid-19 by the insurance companies as it is classed as a new booking.
  • We have a holiday booked with TUI on 29th May. They’re currently offering a free change which we considered but don’t really want. We then started to reconsider until we saw the story about the German bailout but then the directors still had the cheek to take their millions of bonuses and refuse a pay cut despite shutting all IK shops and laying staff off. I’ll wait until it’s cancelled and demand a refund I think. Along with EasyJet jet directors they’re totally pigs with noses in the trough!

Can you direct us or post a link to a case when they have taken someone to Court in these circumstances ?

Ok, add the words "in theory" into my post. Depends if  they want to take that chance I guess.

You are not the first to mention Court Action, but when challenged no one can find any cases where people have been taken to Court for a claim involving a low deposit or failing to pay termination charges when they cancel a holiday voluntarily themselves.

That doesnt mean it isnt possible under the terms though. And at the moment i  imagine they are going to want as much money as possible.

Terms being the appropriate word - lot's of unfair ones that would fall foul of the Package Travel Regs in a Court of Law.
With millions of holidays sold every year, don't you find it strange that even from normal times you are unable to demonstrate previous attempts to extract money unpaid in the circumstances referred to ?
