We had one booked and I looked for the same holiday at the same time next year and it was a grand more expensive. I have seen a different holiday for Feb next year which looks like a decent price, I’m torn whether or not to book it. I think that I’ll wait until my refund hits my account first, I got the email on 21st March saying that it would take up to four weeks. I hadn’t seen this new holiday when that was sorted out.

I wouldn’t rush to rebook your holiday at this point.  Take the credit note for now and wait a few months to allow TUI to have renegotiated hotel contracts, seek offers from hotels and load new prices.
  • We were going to Tunisis, and were turned round midair because of Corona. Tui handed us leaflets with numbers to contact for refunds. Both these numbers were void the next day.  We have since got through, been assured our money would be refunded.
This was from Fri 13th March and still no money from Tui

Hi Kraiem and welcome to the forums.

You might wish to settle down with a coffee in hand and find and read some of the existing threads on TUI.  Whilst I don’t recall exactly the same situation you faced I think it fits into one of the other reported categories of a last minute holiday cancellation during the first few days of the virus outbreak in Europe and TUI customers looking for refunds. Check for similar posts and see what others have done or what advice is given.

Bottom line seems to be that whilst TUI agreed to refunds and will process these for those who had last minute holiday cancellations, it is taking much longer for them to actually action this. I expect due to sheer volumes of cancelled and changed bookings and lack of staff resources.

I would have a look at your booking via the My Booking section of the TUI website if you booked online. That might give an update.  If you booked in a TUI store, since these have closed it does seem that from what others actions have ground to a halt.

You could try posting the contact number you were given to see if others have a similar letter and can check or report success on another contact r method of reaching TUI.

I suspect unfortunately it will be a waiting game. It may be a case of more patience.  Refunds might be measured in weeks rather than usual days.

If you take the vouchers and then rebook your holiday for next year, will the insurance companies still cover you for corona virus? We have an ongoing travel insurance and it isn’t made clear on their website

OK so I was supposed to back from Cape Verde today, but like so many didn't get to go. :(
But I appreciate that this crisis is bigger than my enjoyment. So for this Holiday I paid the 10 weeks prior to flying, so Tui had my 3k at the start of January, they had £2k at the end of November, and whilst interest rates are low I figure they've made a pretty penny on interest from my and others (safe to say) a quarter of a million that have paid a similar amount. so they've had £1bn sitting in their bank accounts earning in excess of 3%
They will have insurance against such things but those may take ages to pay out, and as many have stated they are bonded.

When the lady from Tui rang me about a holiday swap I explained
    1) I have another holiday booked in June with Tui (£2k)
    2) I have another holiday booked in October with Tui (£2k)
    3) I have a holiday booked in Feb 2021 with Tui (£4k)

Therefore a refund was the only option, they agreed and I received an email 27th March advising that the refund would be with me in 4 weeks.

In the meantime they have tried to chase me (electronically of course) to pay the outstanding for the June Holiday.  I have emailed back to advise that I am not paying them any more to them until they refund me...who would??  I had also advised my local branch (whom the June hol was booked with) before they closed.  They didn't seem to understand my logic!?

PS: Before any of you think me a moneybags I've had one foreign holiday in the last 5yrs, haven't been on 2 in a year in over 15yrs and have never had 3 in a year.  Am just lucky I claimed my pension from my previous last year...and am still working...woohoo!
PPS: Am happy to loose the £500 or so deposits paid on the next 3 holidays, they'll just not get any more out of me for now.
PPPS: Accor Hotels who I had my Gatwick hotel and parking booked with refunded me within 48hrs I fully expect Tui to exceed the 4 weeks, purely due to the volume of refunds, reduced staffing and them just being slow.

    I understand your logic.
I agree with your stance and think TUI have done the right thing by you to agree to a refund.
And you accept that by not paying the balance you'll lose your deposit.
A pragmatic, reasonable attitude in very trying times.
The reminder is probably an automatic email, I've had similar.

We are in a similar situation. We should have gone to Mexico on the 4th April. It was cancelled on the 17th March and a refund (of £3400) requested as we have another holiday booked with them in August to Turkey (£5,700). We owe £2k to the Turkey due to be paid on the 8th May and are very reluctant to pay this. We have asked if the April holiday refund could pay off the August holiday balance but TUI told us that we can't do that. Seems so silly as that's exactly what we would do with the refund - pay off the August balance.
No no sign of any money, which is ok in the current situation- I just wish they would be more honest about the situation.

I’m in the same quandary.  My holiday departing this Saturday is cancelled but Tui have said I cannot move the money paid on to an August break booked with them.  Very unfair as it seems unlikely I’ll get a refund before they will want the balance on my next holiday. I’m also in grave doubt that August will go ahead so even if I pay, I will be waiting months for another refund.
