Will lockdown affect house move?

Simply not relevant to this thread. Apart from the sensationalism and factual inaccuracies the Daily Mail is famous for, this thread deals specifically with house purchases in progress with mortgages agreed. These are not being withdrawn.Crashy_Time said:
Government guidance is delay if you haven't exchanged, complete if you have exchanged. Pretty simply really and in line with what everyone already knows and has expected.3 -
After all the headaches and worry.
We are exchanging and completing tomorrow. It'll be such a relief to get the keys in my hands!2 -
Great news, take the scare mongering on here with a grain of salt!TF03 said:After all the headaches and worry.

Had to actually go to the bank this morning to get them to transfer the outstanding funds to my solicitor - not the most ideal thing to have to do in this climate, but we do what we must! Then had a panic when my solicitor emailed at 5 to say the money hadn't arrived yet. It got there in the end, and my mortgage money is also there, so we are 100% ready to go for tomorrow.
I cannot wait. I haven't slept properly in days, and the constant anxiety is doing awful things to my insides. I just want to be done, moved in, and able to hunker down and stay indoors until all of this is over.3 -
That is what some people on here were saying a couple of weeks ago when it was suggested that this could become a full blown financial crisis......JessJ23425 said:

Yes the Daily Mail in 2014 correctly predicted the world would be in the grips of a virus and house prices would plummet in 2020... think I'll start reading it and see what bargain I can get in 2025Crashy_Time said:

Not sure you will have to wait that long TBH, but the Mail is probably partly responsible for the cult like adherence to property values as all important by large sections of the UK public, and partly the reason that a lot of people are going to get badly burned for not having diversified their savings.JessJ23425 said:

unless you have 1) exchanged and 2) disagree to a delay then its all done until who knows when. so any moves planned for friday exchange/completion are off is my reading of it. not sure what time this came out but I was part of a 3 person chain which was all set to go as at 16:00 today so Im guessing after that..0 -
Things are still as clear as mud here. As mentioned earlier, I was due to move into a rental property on 4th April. I've now heard that the previous tenants had moved out prior to the lockdown & the landlord's expecting me to move in as planned on the 4th. Trouble is, my removal firm won't move me during the lockdown - and even if they were prepared to do so, it looks like it'd be breaching the lockdown regulations as the move isn't 'essential' (I won't be homeless if i don't move on that date). I'm trying to find out where this leaves me - but I suspect the answer is that I'll be paying full rent on a property I can't move into for weeks / months <sigh>.0
