My cleaners working from home as they always do. My decorator will be doing the same.As a goodwill gesture I've doubled what they get paid.0

Tens of thousands of people being wiped out by an unstoppable virus & here we have a thread about 1st world problems. I can't imagine the horror of having to do your own cleaning. It must be devastating.2

Hi
My cleaner is due tomorrow & she normally takes some ironing away to do too.
She's going to only collect & do the ironing but I'm going to pay her the full amount & she'll do some extra hours later in the year.

Can you imagine the horror of not being able to do your own cleaning though, for 12 weeks , maybe longer when there is an unstoppable virus wiping people out. Most people I know who have cleaners are elderly or disabled and they NEED that help, very different from those who are too busy or too important to do their own cleaning.gomer said:Tens of thousands of people being wiped out by an unstoppable virus & here we have a thread about 1st world problems. And the thread isn't about people moaning about having to do their own cleaning - it's about the practicalities of a cleaner continuing to visit during the current situation (and started before the government's announcement on Monday)2 -
A lot of cleaners do far more than just hoover, polish and clean the loo. My MIL is 88 and has limited mobility following a broken hip so her cleaner also changes her bed and deals with the bulky laundry. MIL gave up driving a few years ago so her cleaner also takes her to the supermarket every week, carries all the shopping into the flat, collects prescriptions, goes to the library. She is now also taking MILs 92 year old neighbour. If she is unable to carry on assisting my MIL (and the neighbour) then it will fall to me to do - and I live an hour's drive away with a husband who is classified in the most vulnerable group so I am trying to limit my exposure to others to a single weekly supermarket shop and don't wish to increase this unless I absolutely have to. MILs cleaner isn't a luxury - she's what's keeping MIL fed and with her medications - an absolute necessity.gomer said:Tens of thousands of people being wiped out by an unstoppable virus & here we have a thread about 1st world problems. Ridiculous comment. You may as well ask why supermarkets sell ready meals when people can make their own.gomer said:Tens of thousands of people being wiped out by an unstoppable virus & here we have a thread about 1st world problems. Anyway this thread isn't about whether people should do their own cleaning, it is about whether cleaners should be paid if they cannot work.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Yes, I could manage my own cleaning if needed however my cleaner has suddenly lost alot of her clients due to coronavirus & so her income through no fault of her own. She still has herself & 2 children to feed so I do what I can to help her at this difficult time.gomer said:Tens of thousands of people being wiped out by an unstoppable virus & here we have a thread about 1st world problems.
