SameAnyway I’m limiting my online participation - what was once a lifeline is now intrusive and time consuming.
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?4 -
C_J said:Something quite extraordinary has just happened. I have just had a sizeable box of groceries delivered to my door - for free - and the delivery driver explained that it was “from Boris”. I am in the extremely vulnerable category and not supposed to go out, and I registered on the gov website. I thought this meant I might be given priority delivery slots with a supermarket, and it might still mean that, but the note inside the box said I would be receiving this box once a week going forward.
The box contained all sorts of goodies - potatoes, oranges, fresh pears, sliced white bread, tinned tomatoes, tinned peas, a pack of spaghetti, tinned peaches, corned beef, tuna, Heinz tomato soup, tea bags, coffee, a jar of Homepride pasta sauce, shower gel, and 2 toilet rolls!!
I’m a bit speechless and emotional right now.5 -
That's fabulous C_J - my husband is on the list and we registered, so am delighted that they're sending them out now - someone on the BBC said they'd started and would be in full swing by next week. We didn't know if we'd be contacted first.4

Fantastic News. When I filled out the form last week I was very much of the opinion that I didn't want or need food parcels, just access to delivery slots. Either way this sounds most welcome for us as Mrs Un doesn't have to agonise over going out for fruit & veg. Anything not required is going to a local foodbank, I'm wondering if this was the idea ?

Great news about the boxes. Unfortunately here in Wales there isn't a similar set up yet. Hope the WAG get their backsides into gear as it will take the strain from us ( DH also high risk) and our DD ( who has to work caring for the children of NHS staff ) from trying to sort out my 90 yr old father who lives alone. TBH we would be grateful just for milk, bread, and fresh F&V.
Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently4 -
Like you, Un, I thought submitting the form might give me access to a supermarket delivery (I recall being slightly confused by the question on the form about food allergies) but now that this parcel has arrived I can’t tell you how grateful I am not to have to risk going out for fresh fruit. There were two cartons of long life milk which will be a god send too as we are very rural and don’t get milk deliveries out here.
I have to tell you that I almost cried when I unpacked the box.8 -
We've just said the same about giving anything we don't need to a local food bank - it's only fair. It's fresh fruit that I've run out of this week - my husband has been eating a lot recently and we're down to tins and frozen now.
I placed an Asda order a few days ago for Monday, but it was incomplete and I thought it might be easier to amend it, once placed. Not so. It seems to snag every time at the final 'handshake' of the payment process, even though I verified it for the initial payment and verify it with the bank for the new amount (not at this time of day, in the early hours). Now they're accepting gift cards for payment, I thought I'd try that, thinking it would be an internal Asda process (it tells me the card balance and transaction value), but it still requires a backup card in case the gift card balance is insufficient - even though the numbers are there and could be used. It seems that some modest tweaks in the programming might make that work better and cut down load on their server processes and resources.4 -

Edit, found it and registered my MIL, I don't think my friend will be eligible though.
