Staying sane during self isolation (not medical chat - there are enough of those threads already)

  • Suicide is a problem right now.  One of my friends works with a lad who had mental health issues and has killed himself, only 21.

Has that person reached out directly to you - @MoneySeeker1 ?
That poor lad - has this been since this all kicked off?

There are going to be people who do this right now. I did feel sorry for the two nurses (one in this country/think the other one was abroad?) that have done so already because of this and some of them will doubtless be under a lot of strain right now.

Re Mr X (the likely candidate for this I know) I don't know him well enough to count as a personal friend - he's just in a circle of people I am in. There are people much "closer" to him than I am in every sense of the word - he's quite a popular guy in fact. He's unlikely to regard me as "close" enough to ask - but will have lots of others I'm sure that could/would. But I still regard him as "likely candidate".
Yes it was only four days ago. Very sad indeed. Tragedy

Perhaps you should reach out to him, not directly mentioning anything to do with what you have heard -

Just a 'Hey how are you doing?'.......

Don't rely on others doing that - as I know folk often will NOT reach out, feel awkward/dont know the person well enough/think someone else will do it / don't feel equipped to talk to people if they bring up MH issues.

Many people run a mile when MH issues are involved and your friend is lucky to be popular as often folk with MH issues end up lonely as no one wants to know.

Now you know about this situation, you cannot ignore it - it is your duty as a human right now more than ever - to reach out to someone you know is struggling.  Please I implore you, drop a casual message.

I have Kindle Unlimited and read a lot. I started a website and work on that. We don't have a TV but use Amazon Prime, Chili Cinema and catch up on Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV plus YouTube. We revamped kitchen and bathroom and done various small bits and pieces. Spend more time choosing food and cooking. Husband has hollow legs though ! I am taking part in two online mental health studies, one weekly, one fortnightly.
