Staying sane during self isolation (not medical chat - there are enough of those threads already)

I've had recent enforced 'self-isolation' - well, sort of as I had an operation that put me non-weight-bearing for 2 weeks and a further 6 weeks semi-weight-bearing during which I only left the house for check-ups and x-rays.I caught up on my holiday restaurant/hotel reviews on Tripadvisor.I watched box sets on iPlayer/ITV Hub - all 5 series of Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders, Liar and other dramas - including 59 episodes of Downton Abbey.I read a lot.I pampered my nails and hands.I stayed sane.

Had through various plants a few weeks back that I'd ordered just before it hit this country and they are sitting waiting for me to plant them out in the garden - so that's lined-up to do when I stop feeling a bit "under the weather" (I don't know what with....) - so gardening is indeed something some of us can do. All the more incentive when you're someone that has always taken the attitude of wanting most of the plants I get to be food plants, so dual purpose of making sure I can get what I need of that.
Now for a bit more self-education and watching the latest free health care video in a mini-series I've subscribed to before the free 24 hour period for that particular one expires.
Even little things like much more religiously looking up words I'm not quite sure of and my vocabulary should have expanded rather more by the end of all this (am finding "The Guardian" website handy for a source of words I "should" know, but am not quite au fait with yet).0 -
@helensbiggestfan - I would love to read your memoirs, I bet it is quite a read. I always enjoy to read your posts and you are living a very interesting and inspiring life x
Today it took me all my time to get out of my sweaty bed and in to the bath. I did quite enjoy it though, nice bubbles, soothing on the aches. I always feel like having a bath is an activity. It is normally, for me. Run a nice bubbly bath and relax - ahhhh. Occasionally I will charge up my laptop and then put it on the loo seat, and watch an entire movie whilst i am in there.
Talking of movies, last night I watched a movie that has just come out on Netflix, called 'lost girl' - it is a true story which is tragic throughout with an absolutely unbelievable ending. I would love to talk more about it, but don't want to give (what the young uns call) a spoiler. If you watch it, let me know what you think.
If anyone has any netflix or amazon prime recommendations - please let me know cps I am not really up for doing much - although I would love to do a bit of gardening, my plants arrived yesterday . I understand that both Netflix and amazon prime run a free 30 day trial - so you can use it for a month and cancel without charge (if anyone's interested)
I do so admire the Italians, how they are all singing and playing music. Community. I wish the English could be like that, maybe we will. I will get my instrument out ready to start some noise on my street - although round here im likely to get told to !!!!!!
And although we dont know each other from MSE, in real life - we are a community, some been here years - yes some people get in to squabbles, but that is life, eh. I would notice if one of you regulars stopped posting for a while. I do hope you all are keeping themselves as well as possible. I am up for a chat if anyone is bored, losing their mind etc.

Normally I would be outside immediately planting them, but struggling even to go to the WC at the minuteWith love, POSR0 -
Oh I forgot to mention in my post - this is something I am looking at today
Virtual Museum Tours

Sorry you are struggling with aches and pains. I'm not that great either at the moment but my bath this morning definitely helped. I've booked a massage for Tuesday next week, in the meantime I'm going to try some yoga and a walk later.....only 10 minutes or so but better than nothing.
Made a start sorting out some cupboards this morning. Slow work because I need a rest every so often. Never mind, little and often. Part of my new "Tiny Daily Habits" plan to better myself. 😂
Thanks for the film recommendation. I noticed Lost Girl on Netflix. I'll give it a whirl. Last night I watched Red Joan. Enjoyed it. Apparently based on a true story. Quite thought provoking.
I am deliberately looking at more challenging films, documentaries etc. Stuff that makes me use my brain and think. Need to keep the old grey matter in good order. 😂3 -
Re plants - I've got them from quite a variety of sources in the event.
I do like something a bit more unusual if I can - though one of the ones I've got currently waiting was from "that" firm we all know and hate - and so that's a pear tree waiting to go in then. Am not expecting any pears this year - but I guess you never know.

@helensbiggestfan - Thanks for your concern - I am going to be fine - sure ill shake it off in a few days. It is the older people I am more worried about tbh (my parents live miles away and really concerned about them
and worried about little un (well grown up little un in their 20s- has health issues) and I have an 82 yr old neighbour im very close to, who relies on me and hub for bits, So it is more the anxiety for others at the min that is a problem. But I try to remain calm and keep in contact with those I love, as much as poss without being intrusive
I too am well in to documentaries and true stories - I find fictional films just non relate-able.
Red Joan sounds interesting, I shall have to see if it is on Netflix. I shall wear Netflix out at this rate.
Have got my instrument out, but too achey to bother for very long, I keep having little breaks.
Oh another idea for anyone interested - Open University online do a variety of free courses. This could be a great opportunity to learn something new. There are over 900 of them, all free, and a huge variety

I am just waiting for my shopping delivery to arrive. Thatll be an activity. I hope they will leave the shopping outside without fuss. I rang asda yesturday and explained and they said to just tell the driver. So i will have to speak to them through the door and explain.. It is not fair putting their drivers at risk. They are doing a great job. I think home shopping drivers need to be looked after - on min wage carting heavy crates from above their heads from the vans.
I did a christmas season in asda home shopping - a couple of yrs back, (Picking) and they wanted to train me up to be a delivery driver, and I was up for it until I realised that you have to lift crates off shelves that are above your head, and they can be reall heavy
hope I have less aggro than I did with the postman yesturday (it was not my usual postman) who was not very understanding and did not want to leave the parcel without a signature...(cos i couldnt open the door without risking him ) .....i only got it as one of my neighbours was walking by and could see what was happening so he stepped in and told the postie to get a grip, signed and left it on my doorstep, whilst i watched out of the peephole haha. The postie was quite argumentative and did not have any understanding when I told him if I open the door I am putting you at risk Mr Postie...he thought i was being an A-Hole. Quite distressing really when you are feeling ill to have that carpWith love, POSR0 -
Update - Home shopping lady was an angel. I explained to her through the door and she went and sat back in the van whilst I unloaded, no argument.
Then I sprayed the crates with anti bac spray before leaving them on the doorstep. hope other pple are doing the same
I would say that a quarter of the shopping was substituted though and no loo rolls available at all. With love, POSR1
