Yeah, I know, I messed up. I was having a real bad week and wasn't really with it and just did it. Here it is word for word

Defence

I dispute the full claim. Premier Parking Solutions (PPS) state
there is no trace of my payment, however, I have in my possession
a ticket for the car park in question that more than covers the
amount of time I was in the car park. When I paid for my ticket, I
put my VRN into the ticket machine and the machine then
asked me for payment. I put in the correct amount of money and
paid for my ticket, displaying it on the dashboard of my car. For
some reason, the machine only printed the first letter of my VRN
on the ticket. My VRN is MT68EPF, so just M was printed on the
ticket. PPS rejected my appeal saying there is no trace of my
payment, however, there will be a corresponding entry on their
ticket machine that shows the date and time I parked and ticked
printed with only a M on, matching the ticket I have in my
possession, making my payment traceable. I have requested a PDT
printout from PPS to cover the time I made my payment so my
payment can be traced, however this
has not been forthcoming. PPS have suffered no financial loss as I
bought and paid for a ticket for the amount of time I was in the
car park and I have the ticket as proof. I should not be held
responsible for the failings of PPS's machine.

Ah OK.  Not great but at least it is a defence and it states the main point.

Evening all.
This morning I emailed PPS and informed them it had been 35 days since they received my SAR and that the PDT printout was actually personal information. At 16:27 today I received the below email from BWL

Thank you for your email. 

 We have now had a response from our Client in regards to your queries. 

Our Client has provided us with a copy of the transaction log from the contravention date, this log shows that you had only entered the letter ‘M’ into the payment machine. It was not an error in the tickets printing.

 The log also shows that several other drivers were able to correct enter their full vehicle registration as per the terms and conditions displayed within the car park. Therefore our Clients position remains that you were in breach of the terms and conditions and remain liable for the PCN. 

 We can also confirm that our Client own the land outright and therefore are the landowners of the car park.

 Should you have any further queries  please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Can a log show what was input or just what was printed out? I want to ask them how I managed to obtain a ticket from the machine if I hadn't entered a full VRN into the machine but I don't know if it's a good idea to keep going back and forth with questions at this stage, especially when they weren't overly forthcoming with the PDT print anyway. They haven't send me a copy of the print as requested, they have only emailed me the above. Should I push them for a copy of the printout?

Almost all PPC PDTs will print a ticket regardless of what's input - one digit out, no VRM input at all or a total gobbledygook entry, it's all part of the scam and is a 'good earner' for the PPC network.  Technology could easily associate the VRM data entry with the VRM ANPR capture to ensure there is a full match before the ticket emerges from the PDT, but this lucrative income stream would immediately evaporate!

Can a log show what was input or just what was printed out? 

No, they are making it up and clearly on the balance of probabilities (given the other cases the same, where tickets have been printed out with 'PP' or 'QQ' which are clearly error codes) this was a system error because a driver is highly unlikely to have just typed 'M' into the machine! 

Don't worry about it. You will be the only true witness to events at the hearing and it counts for a lot.  Tell the Judge you DID NOT type in 'M' alone and show the evidence that these old Metric machines do this sort of thing all the time, and you will be the convincing party.

State the full VRM was entred. You're stating this under penalty of perjury 
.all they can state is their machine has only recorded "m". This does not disprove what you entered , as what you entered and what the machine records can be different.
