It was in Plymouth mate. Interesting that you're doing the same with one of their machines though.Chico_talent said:Can i ask where this was. Im fighting PPS for the same reason (not a full reg number).

Plymouth - Bovisand. What's that... less than five miles?
Keep comparing notes, guys.

Yeah its about 5 miles. I live in plymouth and we went to bovisand for a day out.
I've done quite abit of research and found some previous cases going in front of a judge with regards to incorrect register numbers.
Have a look at my defense which is posted on my thread, might give you some tips for your WS if you want them. The ones i would recommend reading are: Parking Eye v Mr Heggie, excel v mrs S [redacted], Ms J Walmsley v the parking and traffic appeal service.

I eventually got a copy of the PDT print from BWL today. The email said
"Thank you for your emails and I apologise for the delay, I was out of office on Friday. Please see the attached transaction log as requested (partially redacted to protect the identity of individuals not subject to this mater).
As you will see on the log, several other drivers managed to enter a full and complete vehicle registration, however your entry at 11:10 only shows up as an ‘M’.
The log also shows that no errors were reported with the payment machine on the contravention date. If such an error had occurred it would have been recorded on the log as such. Since there are no errors reported our client is satisfied that the payment machine was in full working order.
If you have any further queries please do not hesitate to get in touch"
I have attached a copy of the log but to me, entries 5, 22, 32, 37, 53, 79 and 83 don't look like full VRN's. Mine is entry number 65. To me this would suggest a problem with the machine but was just wondering what other peoples thoughts were.

Agreed; and no 64, (just before yours!), looks wrong as well as it has Five asterisks instead of the expected four; whilst No 17 has only Three asterisks.Kingmonkey77 said:I have attached a copy of the log but to me, entries 5, 22, 32, 37, 53, 79 and 83 don't look like full VRN's. It looks like the number of stars corrolates to a latter or number there reacting, if that's the case it definitely looks like there is more incomplete VRN than just yours.4

So they are acknowledging you paid for the parking time. What they are now trying to impose therefore is punishment for some error, whether human or mechanical, on you. I'm afraid private companies cannot impose penalties, reinforced by that part of the PE v Beavis judgment that they are either ignoring, or more likely, they just don't understand. Beavis, innit! Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

So, just out of interest really, I asked why their machines were set up to issue what they deem to be invalid tickets and got this response
Our Clients payment machine is set up to issue tickets matching the exact digits typed in by the user.
As I am sure you can appreciate, many personalised registrations are shorter than the typical registration plate. It is entirely possible for a valid registration to be made up of fewer or indeed single digits.
In any event, it is the duty of the driver to ensure they have fully complied with all of the terms and conditions when parking on private land, including the requirement to enter your full and correct vehicle registrations. If you noticed that the ticket did not display your full registration once it was printed, you should have attempted to obtain a second valid ticket. It is evident that you did not do this and therefore our Client is satisfied that you remain liable for the PNC.
Does anyone know if it's legal to have a number plate with just a single digit on?
