BAA strike

Can someone from BAA explain the reason for the stikre. Is you pay in jeopardy? NO Is your pension in jeopardy? NOCurrent staff have absolutely no reason to strike they are keeping their current terms and conditions. The BAA staff are up in arms over what. That future colleague are at a disadvantage when it comes to pensions. Well if they don’t like it then they won’t join simple as that. There is one reason and one reason only that BAA staff are going to opt to strike and that is to get more time off over Xmas. I know someone who works at Gatwick and he said no one cares about the union’s reasons they just an extra few days off over the busy Xmas period. So before the BAA staff come on here and try to mask their reasons I suggest they get ready for a serious backlash they will have to deal with from Joe Public when they eventually return from their extended holiday because that’s all it is.0

Does anyone know when we are likely to know what's happening? We are due to fly to Canada on Sunday, returning on january 3rd. I'm really worried about this because we are travelling with my severely autistic daughter and simply can't do massive delays at the airport. If january 3rd is affected we'll have to cancel our trip:A

As a current member of BAA pension scheme are YOUR terms under threat? Don’t quote rumour or gossip just plain facts. The answer is no they are not. BAA are doing what numerous companies have done including the government to its civil servants. All these other companies have accepted that the final pension scheme is not viable for the future and have agreed to a change for new staff. What makes you lot so special? What ever way you try to mask it you are striking for staff who don’t even work for you yet. As I said in my original post this is just an excuse for many people to get an extended holiday over Xmas and New Year.0 -

alsoUnion leaders, however, are unlikely to order walkouts before the New Year saying they are "mindful" of the holidays but also the adverse public reaction.
Oh well, we should find out tomorrow. Hope the BAA workers enjoy their extra 'holiday' sorry I meant strike0 -

thanks - all very interesting! And you're right, there are lot of trolls on this thread, with very few previous posts...0 -
Let's face it. BAA aren't going to cave in over this one.
In the unlikely event that BAA negotiate, it still won't be over.If the pension scheme stays, cuts will be made elsewhere, and my guess is that the p45's will come out in large batches. You can't fight a company like this, they will always win in the end. It would be a very empty victory.
BAA will have guaged that the public are not showing any support for the workers, and as far as the government are concerned, the new pension scheme being offered is in line with their guidelines.
The fact is, the BAA workers may be getting a rough deal, but they are not alone and fortunately the majority of people are realising that there's no point fighting something that you just can't win!
There seems to be a lot of sour grapes from people that have been stuck in a cr*ppy job that they despise, but stay in because of their pension. Someone very close to me did this and he has had to refinance his house just to get through retirement! Pensions have an element of risk no matter what!
I know that BAA workers feel they are getting a rough deal, but think of the young people today, struggling to buy a house. Many are using their houses as their pensions and will likely have to sell up and downsize just to be able to retire at 70. Suddenly the BAA plight doesn't seem to awful does it?
I'm due to travel on January 4th, but I am not going to let this action ruin my Christmas. Fortunately, I can reschedule but I know many, many others that can't. I suggest that BAA workers have a look on some travel forums to get a reality check and an idea of just how high feelings are running on this topic. Some people will literally lose thousands. Money that most people just can't afford.
I myself stand to lose a couple of hundred pounds, and face the awful task of telling my kids that the holiday will need to be postponed. But in truth If thats the worst that can happen to me I'll suffer it. I can sleep at night.0 -
swansea jack .... yes they are under threat....... hope this clears it up 4u once and for all. by the way thats fact unlike ur rumour about knowing 1 person at gatwick who wants xmas off. dont judge a workforce by one of ur lazy mates. im not in this 4 an extra few days off im looking purely at my families financial future. out of interest the government tried this on with teachers a few years ago and didnt succeed. if anyone in there right minds thinks baa can withstand closure of major airports for even a few hours then their much mistaken. watch this space. but of course we could have done what most people on this site have said and rolled over and just taken it0
