Not to mention the roughnecks at Aberdeen!

  • Since my first post on this subject I read that the future plans are to close all the final salary pension schemes, why do all the press releases say that these are 'safe'?

Anyway who chose to have the strike over Christmas?
My point is that over this period not there is not many business flights over this period just more people travelling to see friends and family as this may be their ONLY time to see them or for people that have saved their hard earned money (and paid into their own money into their own pensions) to have a Christmas holiday
    .
So do the unions expect the public to support them by doing this over the holiday period. I think not.

Why do they not have the strike after the holiday period when business are 'back to normal' to effect the high flyer's important business meetings. As I'm sure if more business flights are affected surely this would created more pressure on BAA.

I think they just see the the public going on holiday as expendables. as what are we going to do? Be upset, Moan a bit, Yes, but then we will just have to get over it and save up for next year and hope it doesnt happen again. Where as if they hit the business flyer's and suddenly there will be more interest by the powers above.

Again strike if you must but ruin 'joe publics' holiday/annual family visit and this isn't going give the workers any sympathy, like prudent said it didn't do the postal workers any favours.

Strike at a later date and you might find a little more support from the public
  • 20021991 - to be honest, the answer to that is a simple one.
There is a high turnover of workers at Gatwick and so there are a lot of younger workers who aren't really effected by the pension changes as much as the older ones. No one likes being made to work between Christmas and New Year (hell, bankers in the city have it off) and having it here should help sway the undecided into getting the right result.

Also, We only loose pay whenever we make the stand so it makes sense to strike on a day we'll normally be run of our feet, and when BAA make the most profit.

Like I said though. BAA can stop the strike at any time just by digging into their pockets and pay give workers the pension we deserve.
  • I am still sickened.

the innocent are being USED with absolutely NO consideration or care for their welfare or the upset caused.

I have no sympathy for anyone who can be so callous about their intentions to affect so many people. Whatever your argument is, I have stopped reading it purely because of your lack of concern for anyone else.

this good english person (aren't we British?) is not on your side while you use innocent people as hostages in your fight with your employer.
Blonde jokes are one-liners so men can remember them...;)
  • We fly to Bilbao from Edinburgh via Stansted each year for "Los Reyes Magos" (6 Jan) so that my daughters can see their Spanish granny. If my company was unable to fulfil its contractual obligations to its customers everyone would lose their jobs as no-one would use them any more. The final salary scheme here closed in 1999 to new employees. They have never tried to remove the obligations to existing employees: probably because it would be legally impossible.

How the heck can BAA staff justify striking because of what MIGHT happen. If BAA didn't have a near-Monopoly in London and Scotland then people would use other airports, but I'd like to see one of these BAA staff tell me how I can get to Bilbao from Edinburgh without using TWO BAA airports?

Thanks for ruining my five-year-old and three-year-old's Christmas, BAA staff.
  • I believe the good English public is behind us, and If you put yourself in our shoes you'd feel the same.
I would not put money on that opinion Tony.

It can start anytime after the 27th - although there's talk around the terminal it'll be 72 hour airport shutdown starting on the 1st.
Although the actual dates we will close the airports be officially announced on the 20th.

    - Although if BAA stop caring about their profits, start treating their workers with respect and give us the full pay pension we deserve it need never happen.

My hatred toward people like you cannot be put into words.

You strike for your own personal and stubborn reasons at a time when ultimately the only people who will lose out is those of us who have flights booked. BAA will still make money, Heathrow is renowned world over for being one of the busiest airports on the planet.

But ill be the one who has to tell my young Children our holiday which we have paid thousands for is canceled. Ill be the one consoling their broken hearts.

You will be the one stood on a picket smug.

I sincerely hope that if there is a strike i dont meet you personally. You should hope the same.

The guy is deluded. I for one am not in support of any worker who uses the innocent public as pawns in their game.

I am now worrying about Virgin and BAA strikes.

If you dont like your job Tony or are unhappy to the point you would ruin the dreams and holidays of people including children then get to the Job Centre Monday morning. You fool.

I'm sorry people have to loose their holiday - but they need to stop being so selfish - there are more important things at play here than their reschedulable holiday.

Whose "reschedulable holiday" exactly? Ours isn't. Back on the 3rd, or we don't go, because one person in my family works a public sector job that brooks no rescheduling. Nor, by my reading, will I get any insurance payment as that seems to be related only to delays..and if those are on the cards, we can't go, and we lose a considerable amount of money

Strike if you must, but don't dare shed any crocodile tears.
