    Lesley,

You are correct - after talking to my insurance company again. Because I booked at the beginning of Nov before the ballot was started and the news stories started, I'm covered. They assumed I booked after the ballot started. So, you are all covered if you booked or started your policy before the ballot started.

    Thats good news
  • B inky,

look into flying from france carefully. We also looked at flying from Charles de Gaulle to the states, but found that most airlines do a stopover at heathrow en route!
  • so does anybody have any clue as to what the strike dates are gonna be?
I dont think my fingernails will last much longer! thanks!

this seems to suggest that unite the union have said that it will be in the new year.
  • thanks - thats a little bit of comfort i suppose!
  • If they announce it today, legally they strike can start anytime from 00:00 on the 27th. So all flights on the 27th could be affected. If announced tomorrow, it would be the 28th at the earilest.

Does the strike announcement have to be made public for the 7 day countdown to begin, or could the union announce it to the relative authorities today, and then make a public statement, say Monday??

Is it the ballot or the dispute?
I have a continuous policy with Marcus Hearn and they will pay up to £3000 for flights. However the small print of the policy states that basically they will only pay if the airline wont. Since the airline are required by law then the flights will be refunded. But hotels and car hire etc are not covered and in my case (although not all i accept) the hotel and car hire far outweigh the cost of the flights.

I was discussing with my airline a week or so back about the possibility of moving both flights, for example if my outbound flight is moved 3 days could i move my inbound and the answer was a very firm no.

Unfortunately whilst we should be looking forward to Christmas and out holidays we cannot. But i think its a bad day at the office when someone who does not agree with a policy that does not effect them directly has the ability and potential to bring British Airports to a stand still.

To the user who spotted a spelling mistake in a previous post - I will not discuss what i do for a living since it has no bearing on this discussion and as for pointing out my spelling mistake - well done. You have been nominated for the citizen of the year award.

This is only speculation but i would almost certainly assume any proposed date would be made public. I cannot see any valid reason why the media or Unions would withhold any strike date.

thanked your post in error! pressed the wrong button!

just looking into whether it should be made public or not. The 7 days in only the minimum time they have to give. From the looks of most newspaper articles, it looks like it will happen at the beginning of next year.

EDIT: Unite only need to give notice to BAA, not to the public.
  • Its just been announced on Sky News that Virgin cabin crew are to stage 2No. 48 hour walkouts in the New Year. No dates given yet, but could affect some of the people posting here, and also the possible dates the BAA might anounce for their strike dates.
