BAA strike

Lesley,
You must have a very rare, policy. i've not yet come across anyone whose policy does cover a strike.
I can't help but feel that if it didn't, that you wouldn't be quite so sympathetic.
tbh i was surprised , i will phone them again
and yes even if not covered , I still stand by what i say0 -
Well said, I'm past caring about what's right or not, I just want to know as soon as possible, after all we are due to fly out to canada in 3 days.
If you are flying out to Canada in 3 days then can i suggest you get packing!
By law the union have to give 7 days notice before any strike action. If you returning flight is effected i would hazard a guess it may very well be redirected.
Have a good one :beer:0 -
Lesley,
Part of my 2 insurance policy mentions you are covered for "Wildcat Strikes" but not for strikes that are within the public domain. This strike to be legal requires the union to provide 7 days notice. My insurance companies said yes to start with, after a conversation with their supervisors the answer was no.0 -
Toto,
Enjoy your holiday, you won't be affected. Due to the 7 day rule0 -

So why can't new employees not have the same rights as their collegues who have joined before a certain date?
.
Once upon a time people were forced to work 20 hours a day seven days a week, for pay of a carrot and a turnip! Working pracrices evolve, what worked 10, 20, or a hundred years ago is not always what is best now.
Just because this particular change doesn't necesarily go in your favour (although my guess would be that if they do do away with the FS scheme altogether, they'll replace it with the best posible alternative), doesn't mean its wrong.
I'll bet no-one threatens to strike when the Government put up the NMW every year, or when they increase the number of days paid holiday everyone must be given!0 -
reading my policy it says you are not covered for :
''Any claim that results in strikes or industrial action that were public knowledge before you booked your trip''
so looks like I am covered
dont understand the public domain part of your poicy surfingh?0 -

Thanks, it's the return flight I'm worried about, if it weren't for my little girl who has severe autism I wouldn't worry and would just go with it, but she has a very hard time coping with travel at the best of times so for her sake we can't take risks. We'll see though. Hopefully we can all enjoy the trips we have planned.:A

Does anyone know what time the ballot results are to be announced? I’ve every sympathy with anyone who has a rubbish pension, I just joined my own company’s (not final salary based) pension scheme last week, but to be honest my main concern at the moment is whether me and my parents are going to see my brother get married in America next week. There’s no information anywhere and it’s driving me crazy waiting!0

I have just come of the phone with insurance comapny who have said i am definitely covered ..........but we will see
There is nothng i can do about it anyway , just wish i knew what was happening0 -
Perhaps i didnt explain myself clearly enough.
There are many ways to address issues with your employer and i do not feel striking is justified in this case. As a user said it is nothing short of blackmail and bullying.
Strapped:
There is no need to mention what level of education you have attained in order to justify your point. Just pointing out that BAA staff are not just "people who move bags for a living" (which there's nothing wrong with btw); you point out that there are no qualifications required to do so, and furthermore imply that therefore all BAA staff are uneducated morons who may strike because the Union tells them to, rather than because they understand the underlying issues. I work for a large Law Firm in the centre of London - Does that make my contribution any more justified? No it does not. Are you a lawyer then? Perhaps you may be able to make a useful contribution after all, if you have any specialist knowledge re. the legalities of the respective sides' position.
Have i once mentioned my education - No, i thought that as a user of this forum we were all on the same level? We were until you cast aspertions on BAA staff. Please do not try and seperate yourself from me by throwing your 1st into the arena. You are not the only one here to have a good education, granted i have a higher second, but its quite irrelevant if you enjoy the salary i doBet your pension contributions are high though lol.
I hve made my feeling exceptionally transparent on this issue. I know there is more to running an airport than simply moving a bag. I think you most likely targeted my post as an oppertunity to show everyone just how educationally qualified you are. I can spell "opportunity" anyway.
FWIW here is what you need to be a baggage handler - Nothing more than an ability to hold a job in the UK How is this relevant to BAA staff or the proposed strike?

Remind me again how this compares even remotely to a Doctor? I believe you brought up the Doctor comparison in relation to the proposed Virgin strike, again, how is this relevant to the issue here?[/quote]They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0
