Online shopping delivery slots during crisis

  • Due to this lockdown i am facing problem with online delivery slots, they are not delivering products intime, it is taking more time than usual.
  • Me and my mother are unable to leave the house, me due to cancer and her due to immuno-suppressants that she has to take due to arthritis.
    We were ordering shopping online from Tesco until recently, and were ok with paying £2 delivery cost for Priority Slot delivery, but i am disgusted that they have now put the price up to £4.50, which is definitely excessive, especially as we are on low incomes.
    It seems to be aimed, as other people have suggested, to get people to sign up for their Delivery Saver service.
    Also, i have seen nothing in the press or online about how bad this is.

    You should be able to sign up for a delivery saver for £7.99 per month. You can use clubcard vouchers to pay for it.

     If you are unable to leave the house can you use the flexible slots for £3 without it being too inconvenient? You choose a 4 hour slot and they let you know a more precise time on the day, though I don't know how much notice you get.

    All the slots seem to be £4.50 now - even the all day priority slots. You can’t really blame them I suppose, given that nobody’s making anything much out of home deliveries. Except perhaps Ocado in the longer term, but that’s an entirely different automated operation.

    Right so if you are on the Priority register (with the all day slots) that must mean the £3, 4 hour flexi slots aren't available.

    I posted an image earlier in the thread showing the £3 flexi slots I can access, we are not on the Priority register.

    Yes, that's the conclusion I've come to.

    @ScousePaul
    I don't know if its any use to you, but I've just posted on another thread that I've just now managed to register as a new customer on Sainsbury's website, and booked a delivery for Wednesday evening. Cost would have been only 50p, but as I was stocking up on wine from their offer I spent over £100 so delivery was free.
    CAVEAT I've no idea how good or bad Sainsburys deliveries are, and if you spend less than £40, delivery costs £7.
  • On the Tesco site, the only options i get are Priority Slots, as we were both listed as shielding, which are now all £4.50 and Fixed 1 hour slots. No flexi slot option shown.
  • Starting to look like we have no option but to subscribe the £7.99 a month delivery saver.
    We order stuff from Asda sometimes as they don't charge us for delivery, but lots of the ready meals etc we are used to are Tesco's own brand. It can be annoying having to try various supermarket own brand meals for the first time, to see if you like them, especially when on limited income. We have tried some for instance which were virtually inedible.
