well i didn't have an account with iceland, so more from curiosity than anything i signed up for a new account, and, yes, there was indeed an option to include ones date of birth, so i did.Farway said:
I had no trouble, mine was already on Iceland & Waitrose. Not on the card but on line in your details, along with 'phone number etc. I've not checked Morries or Sainsb but I assume the same applies there. After all they would need to know DOB for alcohol purchases for instanceloxley108 said:

this is so bizarre! several people have said that the supermarkets, or whoever, are aware of their age because of the information on their store card such as the above mentioned mywaitrose or nectar (sainsburys), or tesco club card, or, or whoever! yet none of my cards appear to have my date of birth on them, or indeed any way of entering my date of birth details. are all these good folk getting it wrong, or is just me?pumpkin89 said:
They are contacting all customers over 70 based on the date of birth on your myWaitrose account (N.B. this is separate from waitrose.com account) and offering slots. Presumably it will take a few days to get through all their customers, but hopefully will help a lot of people out.NeilCr said:I got the impression that the list I am on is Waitrose's own - as I wouldn't qualify for the government one.
but as for waitrose all i can see there in the personal details is name and phone number, and no option to include d-o-b. so goodness only knows how you have managed it!! pardon me for asking, but have you had the waitrose account long? perhaps they have changed things in recent years? (i had to re-register my account because i hadn't ordered anything from them for a long while and the old details were wiped, or so they said).

I have been given access to Waitrose's priority slots, but I'm not 70 - unless they are using the year only because I will be in 3-4 months but I can't see my age in my account details.
I do have health problems which affect my breathing but how would they know? I'm not on the govt's list because I'm in Scotland.
d63 wondered about a link to length of account - is that a possibility? - I've had the account for nearly 6 years and use it (home delivery I mean) regularly at 2-4 week intervals.

I was assuming that, like Iceland, they were listing anyone on and over State Pension Age.I've been shopping in Waitrose (with a mywaitrose card) for 13 years and having home deliveries for the last year or so0 -
There is nothing illegal about using your husbands card as long as you have his permission. He's not supposed to share his pin number (but again it's not illegal to do so) but I suspect a lot of couples have shared the information and in the current climate you just have to be pragmatic.jaytin69 said:
Yes, we did think to do that, but I'm not sure about the legalities of me using his card to pay for the groceries. It's in his name, not mine. Our local Morrisons had four police officers outside the last time we were there, the whole thing was pretty intimidating to be honest. I sometimes get anxiety attacks in the supermarket anyway, I find shopping stressful at the best of times.p00hsticks said:
Can he not drive you to the supermarket and if they are limiting it to one person per household, he waits in the car while you do the shop ?jaytin69 said:I can't drive and my husband has no clue, so any that won't let couples in are a no-go. If an item isn't there he will not have any idea what to get.
I'm just grabbing a slot a week wherever I can get one.
You don't hand the card to the cashier so they are not going to know what name is on it in any case. I've seen several cars in car parks with a husband/wife sitting waiting so no one is going to question you. If the local Morrisons has 4 police officers outside go elsewhere, that's not the norm at all.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Self isolating so some not practical and I just forgot the big shop idea in the end (But may give M&S try againaas a treat !) Getting basics with great local Nisa delivering to me and got local support network to deliver prescription. BUT still feel like I'm losing my independence as I get sicker - capable of doing an online order and getting some of those things I crave to make me feel better or enable cooking etc but denied opportunity. Oh well, much worse off than me in these difficult times0

Most loyalty schemes require you to give your date of birth when you sign up. Bear in mind that not all the information they hold on you is visible on your account page - you would have to submit a GDPR request to see everything. There are legitimate reasons you might change your name, address, phone number etc. so they make these visible and give you the option to amend, whereas date of birth never changes, so most companies will "hide" it.d63 said:this is so bizarre! several people have said that the supermarkets, or whoever, are aware of their age because of the information on their store card such as the above mentioned mywaitrose or nectar (sainsburys), or tesco club card, or, or whoever! yet none of my cards appear to have my date of birth on them, or indeed any way of entering my date of birth details. are all these good folk getting it wrong, or is just me?1 -
Managed to speak to Tesco on Tuesday and was told we qualify for their list for 'Priority slots' due to our age, limited to one delivery per week but no guarantee of a slot on a particular day. Logged in today and there are no 'Priority slots' available up to 6th May, which is far as they go.badger09 said:
I used to shop almost exclusively @ Tesco - sometimes in store sometimes online. We're both over 70 with underlying health conditions, (not on the vulnerable list). I've been logging in at all times of the day & night, including 3.15am as I couldn't sleep. Still can't get a slot for either delivery or click & collect. Availability of slots obviously depends on where you live. I've just about given up so once a week we walk the 2 mile round trip to local Co-op for essentials, and get some exercise at the same time.sarah1972 said:Just logged into Tesco and there are slots available for every day next week, Just booked on for Thursday
I was very relieved to be on their list and we would manage with a delivery every 2 weeks, but doesn't look as if even that is possible.0 -

However they do have my DOB, but just checked and it is not showing in my account, but here's a snip from the e mail I received from them, where they refer to my age [my bold]Dear MrXXXXXXX As one of our loyal customers, you may already know about some of the ways we’re working to make sure you and our Partners are kept safe and well while you shop with us.
From dedicating the first hour of opening as priority shopping time for elderly and vulnerable customers to limiting numbers in stores, our Partners have worked tirelessly throughout and we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to them for that.
Even so, not all our customers have been able to visit our shops. That’s why we wanted to write to you in particular today. We believe from our records that you are aged 70 or above and may benefit from a new priority service we’re introducing.
Let me say immediately that we are only using the information you have given us in this way because of the current exceptional circumstances, as we want to do our very best to help you.

I live in the north of Ireland and had I been living I been living in England I would have qualified for one of those priority slots I believe the ‘priority slot scheme’ doesn’t work in Scotland either.
When a Sainsbury’s did come to my town I did have a loyalty card but ditched it a number of years back. There were two main reason.
I do small regular shops for one person, and to be quite honest if you look at the value of one point, we’ll it’s hardly worth the bother.
My second, and the most important, I don’t want large stores to know everything I buy and then target me. Big brother knows enough about me, just look how quickly they could roll of a list of people over 70!
Well that’s my take on it
