  • Regarding the website that cannot be mentioned, you can find it, among other alternatives on Google with:

compare grocery prices and multibuy offers

Just found this alternative yesterday.... Seems good.....
    trolley.co.uk/
Just came here to mention this ... so glad an alternative has popped up! Hope this one doesn't get bought out by the supermarket industry too, lol!

Is that what happened? Was MySupermarket too big a threat to the Big 4?
It's pure speculation. But it really doesn't make sense that a multimillion pound business would just get pulled overnight with no warning, and the only explanation being that it was to focus on 'other business'. Their main investors since 2012 were WPP Plc. who work as a major British advertising/PR firm who most likely has relationships with the major supermarkets.

Worth noting, that at exact same time this website was pulled (March 2020) the Amazon price comparison website CamelCamelCamel.com was also taken down for a period 2 months because Amazon blocked the API allowing them to track product pricing. Both of these closures coincided with the 'panic buying' stage of the pandemic, when there was a lot of price gouging going on, and I remember as a consumer it was quite frustrating not being able to compare prices during the one time when it was most needed!

A lot of people blamed this on Amazon trying to hide the price gouging going on on their site during the pandemic, where a lot of essential items on the site suddenly increased in price.

The theory was that a similar thing happened with MySupermarket, the supermarkets either blocked price tracking or bought them out, or both. Since March 2020 we have definitely seen an increase in supermarket prices and it seems like the perfect way to hide that.

TLDR: Shop at Aldi. It's cheaper than all these places.

I only use a site comparison site for the few occasions I want a branded non perishable product that I can stock up on. I'm fortunate that I have all supermarkets (except Morrison's) near enough that the fuel price doesn't outweigh any saving. 🤣

    Otherwise it's Aldi. 😁

That all sounds a little far fetched, a little too much of a conspiracy theory.  There's no evidence to support that - far more likely that it was impossible to monetise the site sufficiently to cover its operational costs.
  • Just found trolley.co.uk, why is another alternative not allowed to be mentioned or where was it mentioned and then deleted?

I believe the person who posted the other option was self-promoting which breaks forum rules.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • Ah ok, then it should be ok for me to mention it, assuming it's the same one...

    Trolley.co.uk cover more shops:
    • Aldi
    • Asda
    • B&M
    • Boots
    • Co-op
    • Home Bargains
    • Iceland
    • Morrisons
    • Sainsbury's
    • Tesco
    • Waitrose
    • Wilko
    Priceable.co.uk just cover:
    • Asda
    • Morrisons
    • Ocado
    • Sainsbury's
    • Tesco
Both lack Amazon, can't remember did MySupermarket cover Amazon?

Priceable looks interesting, for its layout, but without the two other major online grocery retailers (Waitrose and Iceland) it’s of very limited value.

I'm feeling rebellious this morning, so I'm going to mention Shelfscraper  again. It is after all a money saving app, which should be ideal for a money saving site.

It's not my site & I have no connection to the person who created it, other than to thank them for their efforts. I just find it a useful extra for comparing sites.

Just a tip for anyone who's going to try it. It only works on matching text, so you need to spell correctly. You can expand the results a bit by adding a star*, so cake* would find both cake & cakes :)

It also misses some results, so by no means perfect. (search for birds custard & there's no Sainsbury's in the list, at least not when I use a PC web browser)

And for yet another negative for some people, it only covers a limited ranges of stores. I think it's
    • Aldi
    • Asda
    • Morrisons
    • Sainsbury's (for some reason a lot of their results are missed)
    • Tesco
