Is it just me, or is there no Lidl available?

You're right, there are no Lidl products whatsoever. Hopefully this is just temporary and they will be back soon 🤞🏻

I've yet to find a Lidl website that lists all their prices. Until/unless that happens, there's nothing these sites can do.

There maybe 100's of "similar" apps or websites, but the simple truth is, nothing now compares with what MySuperMarket used to offer. The existing apps and websites only allow searches of single items for comparison, whereas MySuperMarket used to show and compare the top 100 cheapest items across all UK supermarkets and also allowed the user to create their own "Favourites" list, so we could keep an eye on which UK supermarket was offering the best price on any of our favourite items at any one time.

Unless or until somebody creates a website which offers the same as MySuperMarket did, then the loss of MySuperMarket was a great loss to consumers.

Yes there is -- mystery shoppers!

I can't recall all the details, but there was a crowd-data system where people were tasked to visit certain stores, get proof of current price for certain items, and would be reimbursed for the items. Effectively you got the items for free, and the company got to collate the data to check pricing.

Bring that back, with an app, or something ;)

Just came here to mention this ... so glad an alternative has popped up! Hope this one doesn't get bought out by the supermarket industry too, lol!

Is that what happened? Was MySupermarket too big a threat to the Big 4?
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.

Mysupermarket didn’t give a reason for closing, just that they were moving into other business areas.
Unless anyone can post a decent link about them being bought out, I’ll leave that in the speculation bracket.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
  • I see that someone responded with another alternative that they had spent lots of time on, inviting comments. I guess MSE moderators decided that this was not allowed, as it has been removed.

Anyway, if they are watching this thread, I wanted to say that it looks very promising. As with trolley.co.uk (which I guess we are allowed to mention?), I won't be using it myself until it can sort by price or price per unit. However this seems like a very simple feature to add. If/once it is, and Aldi is added, I would find it an improvement over MySupermarket and use it a lot

My use case for these wbesites is to determine which supermarket I should go to for a particular commodity. e.g. if I am not sure what the going rate for bleach is, I will search 'bleach' and expect to see the cheapest own-label one at the top. Or if I am in a shop and see some promotion for bleach, I can quickly work out whether it is any good. It is quite rare that I need to buy a very particular branded product and need to compare prices of that alone.
