It's odd that posts about the LatestDeals app are allowed, but ones mentioning other websites are removed because they count as marketing. Mine is still getting 400-500 unique users a week, which is high enough that I want to keep it going until there is a suitable alternative. I was expecting MySupermarket to come back within a few months though and it is a burden to maintain, especially when one is trying to do so on the cheap. However MSE have not announced anything and the Latest Deals app shows items in an unsorted order. This means it can be used to compare branded goods or very niche products where it doesn't take long to scroll through them all. But it is not useful for people wanting to find the cheapest place to buy staple foods. I posted about how it works internally shortly after it was released and I can't see any functional differences. @pingusback what has changed that has warranted your post?

Yours, I believe, is Shelfscraper  (http://www.shelfscraper.co.uk/)   - and it's excellent in many ways.  It's always my first port of call, and I really like the way it sorts automatically, with the lowest price per kilo at the top.

Really appreciate the time you put into this - no chance of adding Iceland, Waitrose and Ocado is there?

I'd recommend people try this - search takes a little tweaking to get the best out of it, but it's well worth a go.  Thanks again drspa44!

It's a bit strange that the mysupermarket app disappeared just before lockdown, just as C19 was starting to rear it's ugly head. I smell a rat. The government didn't want people going around all shops to get the bargains - they wanted people shopping in one place only and quickly. With all the queues going on, multiple supermarket shoppers would have made the situation worse. I'm also thinking it's also strange that the MSE megashopbot has gone too and that MSE has not launched anything that replaces it, or mysupermarket. We have gone from internet pricing powered UK shopping -  back to the 90s, having to drive around and check prices ourselves.

The reason given at the time had more to do with mysupermarket not making money.

I could understand if they asked for an annual fee & got no takers.  I suspect that Tesco didn't help by pulling all their special prices so they knew there was less than nothing in it for them.  Maybe they didn't think we would notice without mysupermarket that when one of them banged their prices up the others followed within 24 hours.  I suspect that 2 or 3 supermarkets pulled their co-operation & that is why it closed.  One of these days we will find out.

  • I miss this app very much. It really helped us plan our shopping for my family.  Is there any other app which gives the same user experience.

Only the ones referred to above.
  • @lpgm doesn't quite do the job. I felt they went all out with the PR to get as many users. To be honest I tried using it, to be honest it leaves a lot to be desired. Perhaps they should have spent much more time on developing a viable alternative first

It works okay, but the number of shops is small, and it often struggles to parse product descriptions and quantities correctly, leading to way-off standardised price measurements.

    I ended up uninstalling it.
  • This looks like a great alternative. I couldn't find an App, that will be really good with an option to scan barcodes and shopping list  :)

So what's the best alternative to my supermarket to compare prices?
