Veggie/vegan food mainly, but now that I look for the specific item that I went to the shop for, I see it is correctly priced, so not much help to give it as an example now! Also the search has to be so product specific, can it be made less so? Eg. If I want to find Beyond Meat patties, if I type in just that, it finds nothing, if I type in Beyond Meat Plant Based Patties, it finds what I am looking for.drspa44 said:1 -
I appreciate that - thanks.drspa44 said:
At the moment, searching works just on the text you type in as a single string. It has to be fully contained in the product name. As I say, this was just a project I've done at home and as there's no money involved, I have to be careful not to make the server requirements too costly. Intelligent searching is on the todo list.janet278 said:

Thanks. This was the price as of around 7pm yesterday. Sainsburys has now been refreshed and this product shows the correct price now.jnm21 said:
Thanks. Example issue - "actimel" returns https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/product/details/actimel-original-01%-fat-yogurt-12x100g at £2.50, but clicking the link shows £3.75drspa44 said:Since the announcement about MySupermarket closing, I've been spending my free time working on a replacement. It is designed to be extremely basic so it can work on any phone without using much data (unlike MS). As it's just a website, there is nothing to install. Please let me know what you think.

Hopefully MySupermarket will come back in one way or another, but this might help in the meantime.
EDIT Sorry can't seem to select no signature on new site.

I doubt it'll be on MySupermarket level, but it's a start and better than nothing

They have released a preview: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.latestdeals.app&hl=en_GBHad a look at the code to see how it works. In the background it goes to each supermarket's website and searches for your query. This means that it should be good at showing relevant results (e.g. searching for strawberries should not return strawberry scented shampoo) and they will be up to date prices. However because it will only look at the first page of results, if you search for something quite general like potatoes, it won't be able to show all of them and the list is unsorted. Shouldn't be too hard for them to improve it though. I'm glad there is someone dedicated to making this happen full time! The reason it is only app-based and there isn't a website is because of security features in web browsers. Unless website X specifically allows it, website Y is not allowed to send a request to website X in the background. This poses no security risk in mobile apps, so is allowed, but website X might not like it.7

I used to use it more for seeing if certain items were in stock anywhere if I hadn't seen them for a while, it was great! Going to miss it but I'm sure there'll be a plan somewhere for somebody to do the same sort of thing again0
