what is the refund policy like with this new ebay managed payments method?
i imagine on ebay you have 30 days to request a refund(?) but if the buyer pays via paypal, google pay etc do they  have a lot longer to request a refund?   also under ebay managed payments, is it possible to see how someone paid?

As far as I can see managed payments mirrors the old ebay returns policy. I don’t think it is possible at all to see how a buyer paid.

Depends on the seller. If you are a business then they have 14 days to notify you they want to return the item by law and you have to accept returns. As a private seller you don't have to accept "change of mind" returns.

For item not as described or not delivered then the eBay guarantee is 30 calendar days from the estimated arrival date eBay Money Back Guarantee policy.

Is anyone else concerned about the new eBay selling rules? You now have to link your bank account to your eBay account. I am not sure I trust eBay with this information as accounts are often hacked. They also want permission to set up a direct debit, presumably so if they think you need to refund a buyer they can do so even if you dont agree with their decision. I dont want eBay to be able to withdraw funds via a direct debit without consulting me. What if this makes you overdrawn? What if they take the wrong amount?  People are saying that they are being asked to post out items even though funds are not actually in their bank account , but still pending. Ebay apparently are taking a few days to process transactions. I only sell a few personal items mostly clothing and am wondering if its worth the hassle.

I’ve merged your thread into the main managed payments thread . Most of your concerns have been covered along the way as this move to managed payments has been rolling out for well over a year now.

Ultimately though if you are very unhappy about it the only option is to stop selling on eBay, it’s managed payments or nothing once you get your date to move. I can assure you though that when PayPal was forced onto sellers as a compulsory payment method on all listings the unease and negativity was even stronger than for this change.

I would say the refund risk was exactly the same with PayPal, if eBay determined you had to refund they would take it from PayPal before. Now they will take it from sale proceeds on eBay but use a direct debit (or credit card if you change it in the settings) to take the money if your sales don't cover the refund.
But when was the last time you had a refund taken? I think it is very rare for private sellers?

Yes it is taking a few days to process payments, but I only withdrew funds from PayPal every two weeks or so anyway so it makes no difference to me.

I only sell a few personal items such as clothing too and the level of hassle has not changed. In fact as all fees come out at the point of the sale and not six weeks later it is easier. Also I don't need to make withdrawels from PayPal it just automatically moves across.

I have been forced to use "Managed Payments" by eBay's new policy and immediately have come across big problems with the first item I have sold. I have spoken with eBay customer support several times about this and they either deliberately lied or they don't know anything about the new system themselves............. eBay claim to have sent the money to my bank but my bank tell me there is no sign of it, I have checked my bank details that eBay hold and they are correct. From now on I will only use eBay as a last resort and I will cancel their direct debit as soon as all this is sorted out.
I thought I was experiencing a similar problem - neither my bank nor I could trace the payment from eBay for the first item I had sold under the new regime.  On closer investigation however I discovered the payment HAD been paid to me, but the payee was "Adyen N.V." whereas I had been looking for eBay's name. Might be worth another look?

I was just reading something similar on a different forum - the only mentions of lost payments are either because recipient has not recognised the Ayden payment or in one case where bank stopped all incoming payments as they placed the account under investigation. Reading between the lines for the latter issue it was actually a rather high turnover business account who was taking in daily high payments to a private bank account via bank transfers, paypal payments, etsy payments , Amazon payments (and some others)  and Ayden was the final straw .Obviously there is no suggestion that is the case here and I hope the OP has got it sorted.

  • I have been asked to update the payment but when I try it just keeps saying there is a problem with the application. Guess my account will be closed then.

No your account won’t be closed, your ability to sell will just be disabled until such point as ebay sort out whatever glitch they currently have .
