yeah me. One account got the invite last week and I've successfully signed upto that.
my other account has still not had the invite, and when I log on everything looks the same. is there a way to manually opt in?
No, it looks like you have to wait for the invite.

Yes I still have two accounts on the paypal system and one had an offer to sell three items for free, I used these and have sold an item and it was paid for by paypal. The other account has never been used for selling but there were no offers so it's unchanged with no 'invite'.

I've contacted eBay yesterday about Managed Payments and as mentioned before they said I would have to wait until I get the invite, but the representative also said they've pushed my name to the relevant department to have me moved to Managed Payments soon. Granted, I don't know if they can actually do that or he/she was just trying to get rid of me xD I guess time will tell..
  • Hi, I have a question about bank accounts  - there is another bit on this site from 26-Nov-2020 where Jenny Keefe talks about the managed payments and mentions that if you are someone who uses their Paypal as a kind of piggy bank for treats (i'm a private seller and only sell stuff I no longer want, so this is what i essentially do), you can set up an alternate bank account just for this purpose, and links you to a page about the best bank accounts for switching etc. I only have one current account (Natwest, since 1984) and a couple of savings accounts, and don't want to switch my current account, so was wondering if anyone could recommend a bank to set up an account with. Are there any pitfalls I should be concerned with or other things i should consider?

Why not open another account with Natwest ?

No reason at all really, just fishing for any potential advantages/disadvantages of any particular type of account. As an aside, I do remember that one time some years ago when I applied online for a Natwest ISA Account (they had sent an email offer to me previously about them), after doing all the online forms they said there was a potential problem (unspecified) and I'd have to come into the bank to verify it; not so easy for me as a non-driver and they had closed down my local branch, so I tried applying online with a diff. bank and was accepted no hassle...

I have been forced to use "Managed Payments" by eBay's new policy and immediately have come across big problems with the first item I have sold. I have spoken with eBay customer support several times about this and they either deliberately lied or they don't know anything about the new system themselves. They told me there is no way that eBay can take funds from my bank account, WRONG, that is the first thing they did, it is a "Direct Debit" and they have reduced the amount of notice that they have to give you from the usual 14 days to 3 days in the "Direct Debit Guarantee". Once the buyer pays eBay it can take up to 8 working days (according to eBay) before you have the cleared funds in you bank account, yet eBay tell you and the buyer that the item should be posted as soon as they have paid. Why would you post the item before receiving the funds? especially when eBay have demonstrated to me that they can't be trusted to even tell the truth? Also the postage cost on my item is over £50 and I haven't received any money yet, so again why would I send it? Now the buyer is getting impatient because eBay has raised his expectation that it will be posted and I will not post until I have the cleared funds in my bank. eBay claim to have sent the money to my bank but my bank tell me there is no sign of it, I have checked my bank details that eBay hold and they are correct. From now on I will only use eBay as a last resort and I will cancel their direct debit as soon as all this is sorted out.

Your post is very difficult to read, I’ll do my best with an answer.

You can elect to be paid daily or weekly, ive chosen weekly so yes it is possible for me to wait 8 days for my payment as I get paid on a Tuesday and items sold on Monday won’t clear in time for that weeks payment. However, if I wanted my money quicker then I only have to switch to every day and I’d wait no more than 2 days, so why don’t you do that?

This also might be more complicated as you mention £50 of postage which implies a very large expensive sale. (£50 is a huge amount for postage and if you start a new thread someone might be able to suggest something more reasonable). If that high priced item is unusual for you then the payment might be being held against fraud, PayPal used to hold for 2@ days, and basically if you don’t post then you’ll get the sale cancelled and almost certainly be marked as a fraudster.

Your despatch time should be extended if you aren’t going to post, as it stands you are going to get a defect anyway if you don’t post within your stated time, so your account is in danger already. I’d also be very nervous at leaving myself open to an INR before even posting as you could cause yourself all sorts of issues.

The system seems complicated at first, read up a bit about it, it isn’t perfect but you are likely to be causing yourself a lot of bother here and risk losing money and /or your account. If you were unclear what it all meant it seems unwise to have gone ahead with your first item being extremely high end.

On the old system PayPal would freeze you account if they couldn't recover any refunds via payment methods you added to PayPal. eBay will try to take it from outstanding payments but will then use the direct debit if needed. I've seen several stories of people locked out of PayPal after a refund they didn't want to agree too was forced.

But I'm not worried as I've so rarely had to refund anyway.

Also I have been selling on eBay for close to 20 years. I've always had to find the money to pay for postage before being able to withdraw from PayPal as they used to make it very hard to remove the funds from PayPal.

what is the refund policy like with this new ebay managed payments method?
i imagine on ebay you have 30 days to request a refund(?) but if the buyer pays via paypal, google pay etc do they  have a lot longer to request a refund?   also under ebay managed payments, is it possible to see how someone paid?
