I think that the 'no online access' in this instance may refer to not being allowed to make withdrawals online or transfer funds internally. Mansfield Building Society do have an online banking portal.
I think that this account will allow eligible savers to make monthly deposits via SO.

As for recycling the envelope, it doesn't take very long at all and it gives me something to do whenever I'm on hold to a bank/building society.5 -

I've got to try and adjust my expectations to 'Monmouthshire Time' .......apparantly this is a slower artificial readjustment of real time by a factor or 4 or 5 and can be extremely annoying.

If you've paid in then your money is safe. I live in a very rural part of the UK and we have local time, much more extended than 'manyana'. It's life.
