I noticed the new Saffron members regular saver is a variable rate. The previous equivalent was a fixed rate - at 3 per cent I believe.

So the 4.35 per cent rate could do up or down!
Same with their new Small Saver and Children’s RS. I think they are trying to eliminate the admin that came when they released new fixed rate issues

Theoretically yes but in reality if they want to increase rate is they will launch a new issue and allow existing member to close their existing RSA and new start with a new issue of RSA. IMO this is a smart way for damage control as when people open a new one they will need to start from the square one (1st Month) again. Those who don't pay attention will be left with their old rate. For saver it is annoying but their CS has been excellent and you could sort it out within less than five minutes over the phone.

Speaking of Saffron, I've recently opened an easy access account with them so that in a year I'll be eligible for the regular saver.

Can anyone think of any other places I should be opening an account now, to be eligible for similar perks in the future?

    Thanks!
Cambridge BS, YBS, Coventry BS, Monmouthshire BS, Principality BS - -  more or less every BS. Also local ones with Post Code restrictions, should you be lucky enough to live in their areas.
Possibly Skipton too - they had an existing member RS in 2021 I think - but you only had to be a member since a week or so before it was released
    And Newbury, Leek and Bath.
If you want a Newbury account you should get in quick

    According to their website:

“From 30th March 2023 we will only be accepting new savings applications from people who live in the following postcodes: AL, BA, BH, BN, BS, DT, EX, GL, GU, HA, HP, HR, KT, LU, MK, NN, OX, PO, RG, RH, SG, SL, SM, SN, SP, SO, TA, TW, UB, WD, WR. Our Existing member account is available to all existing members who live in England or Wales.”

I think I'll speculatively open their home saver then just in case.

Royston Vasey BS but you have to be VERY local 😊
😂 It's a local BS for local people.

Anyone who's seen the league of gentlemen would be aware of this. 😆
I had few accounts with my Royston Vasey BS for a few years in a row, but they failed to offer anything good since I closed my last one in Feb 2021 :(

The Newbury Welcome to Newbury account @ 3.3% may be better rather than 3.15%.

I've already got that one. I'm just securing the account now in case the rate rises after the postcode restrictions come into force.

Absolutely! Get your foot in as soon as the door opens and keep it there - proved to be a good strategy.  At present 3.3% is a good rate. If it falls far behind the leading IA I will withdraw £2950 and will keep £50 on the account.
