I saw someone reporting they had opened the account despite only having an Everyday account.londoner62 said:I'm turning down the Santander RS because £200 @ 2.5% will earn me about £32 but first I need to transfer my Everyday Current account to a 123 account, the cheapest of which is £24 a year leaving the equivalent of £8 a year interest! £200 at 1% would return £13!!
I opened the account years ago when the 5% regular saver was on offer and at the time you only needed to have a santander current account to be able to open an RS. At a later stage, they then restricted the RS to those who had a 123, select or private bank account but I was always able to continue to open another RS on maturity despite just having an everyday account. I didn't bother renewing it once the rate dropped below 1% so I haven't had an active RS for the past year or so, but I was still able to open one this morning.
In the application you have to tick a box to confirm inter alia "you’re an existing , or customer at point of opening.1|2|3 WorldSantander SelectPrivate Banking"

Sometimes it happens that you tick a box by mistake, or because you don't understand the wording........................kuepper said:ChaskhaChaia said:

I've had a 123 Lite for years and never paid the fee because I haven't had any DDs taken from it. If you look at the terms they say, "Once you have met the cashback criteria for the first time, you will begin to be charged the monthly fee."londoner62 said:I'm turning down the Santander RS because £200 @ 2.5% will earn me about £32 but first I need to transfer my Everyday Current account to a 123 account, the cheapest of which is £24 a year leaving the equivalent of £8 a year interest! £200 at 1% would return £13!!
So you don't pay in £500 or log on either? If so I feel more comfortable going down that route than ticking a box saying I have a 123 when I don't

Just a quick question, why an isa are you earning more than £1000.00 a year in interest?.Mabel2012 said:Is there a table showing the current Top 10 1 year fixed ISA accounts. If so, where is it located.
If so is a good.
If not regular 1 year fixed savings is better.
Best offer Kent reliance via flagstone give 1.85%
Best offer Shawbrook bank isa is only 1.4%.
Or easy access Chase uk bank 1.5% and 1% cash back on spending via debit card.
No hard credit search, just soft search.

Its only £500 for a higher rate taxpayer - and many of those with the sort of spare cash to invest will be earning above the average. But even then its probably a tiny number that exceed the limits and have enough cash saved to do so to make a cash ISA with lower rates than say over savings accounts or regular savers more useful. But as interest rates rise - if they do rise that may change.Bigwheels1111 said:

40% of the population according this survey doesn't even have £100 in a savings account - and its the majority in the north, Scotland, Wales and NI. What a divided society economically we are!
