I'm turning down the Santander RS because £200 @ 2.5% will earn me about £32 but first I need to transfer my Everyday Current account to a 123 account, the cheapest of which is £24 a year leaving the equivalent of £8 a year interest! £200 at 1% would return £13!!

I saw someone reporting they had opened the account despite only having an Everyday account.

    Yes that was me.

I opened the account years ago when the 5% regular saver was on offer and at the time you only needed to have a santander current account to be able to open an RS. At a later stage, they then restricted the RS to those who had a 123, select or private bank account but I was always able to continue to open another RS on maturity despite just having an everyday account. I didn't bother renewing it once the rate dropped below 1% so I haven't had an active RS for the past year or so, but I was still able to open one this morning.

I make money on the DDs on 123 Lite.  The cashback on the direct debit for most people's fuel bills will more than cover £2.  The rest is profit.

    Re Santander...

I have 2 old accounts that were previously RSs, but are now showing as Everyday Savers, with zero balance.    Do these need to be specifically closed before opening a new RS?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

No I had an old one that had changed to an Everyday Saver and had a zero balance but managed to open new RS.

I had a 3p balance on my Santander Everyday Saver and had no problem opening a new 2.5% RS.
