For anyone opening the Santander RS just be careful that you set up your standing order date of payment correctly as their definition of a month is from the date of the account being opened. So no opening now and paying the next £200 in on the 1st of the next month. From their summary box: Your month is calculated by the date that you open your Regular eSaver, e.g. you open the Regular eSaver on the 16th of a month, your month will run from 16th of one month to the 15th of the next month.

I did a manual transfer of £200 and set up a STO on the 6th of every month starting in May.Notepad_Phil said:For anyone opening the Santander RS just be careful that you set up your standing order date of payment correctly as their definition of a month is from the date of the account being opened. This is what yourmoney website were saying after press release yesterday so worth contacting them via chat.GPK10 said:I have tried to open the new Santander RS as an existing 123 Lite account holder. It won't let me as I already have a dormant regular saver account paying 0.5%. Is there a way of upgrading or closing online, or will I need to call them?

"But Santander confirmed customers can choose to close their existing Regular e-Saver via Chat. Once closed, the balance and accrued interest from the old account will be paid and they can then open a new Regular e-Saver via Online or Mobile Banking. This may be particularly handy for customers who have just started paying into the regular saver at the lower 0.5%."

Despite dire warnings about long delays I was through in 30 secs after clearing voice security. A really helpful agent sorted out the closures for me, she was based in a branch and hadn't done the online thing before but was very cheery and soon managed the first one and then the other two followed even more quickly - a really pleasurable phone call. She warned me that they will still show online for two days.Once these were closed I was very easily able to open the new RS from the app.

Thanks to the folks here I have closed two low interest paying RSs and opened Santander and Lloyds Club RSs.

My robot chat messaged to say to login to do the closure and then online chat wasn't available - hey ho, it's done and I'm happy.

It’s a faff but you need to log onto online banking and change the account type to an easy saver (I think it’s under other account services) which will crystallise the interest, you then withdraw down to zero.Frogletina said:
I tried to close this account, but the message I got was that I couldn't close the account unless there was £5 or less in there. So I transferred the bulk of the money leaving £5 in the account and now I have a message saying that the account cannot be closed online.MDMD said:Club Lloyds monthly saver now 1.25%. Usual rules apply that if you have opened one in last 12 months can’t open this until you go past 12 months:

Standard LBG regular savers at Halifax, Lloyds, BOS now 1%
My account only has until May to run, so I thought I'd close it now as the interest I get will be in the new tax year, and transfer all the money to Chase.

I'm assuming you don't have a smart phone with an up to date operating system?Gers said:Thanks to the folks here I have closed two low interest paying RSs and opened Santander and Lloyds Club RSs.
With Chase paying 1.5%, I want at least 1.75% and flexibility from any new RS. Club Lloyds is my main current account, but 1.25% for a new RS is a joke.2
