I would hold fire if I were you as other savings accounts with flexible conditions may reduce making the rate on this account suddenly look good. Thankfully many of the regular savers are fixed rates. However, if you need to close to enable you to afford the Virgin RS you can close immediately.
No point in 'hold fire' when I can still find lots of 2% fixed RS out in the market.
I don't need to close my YBS regular saver to fund a new one but why would you keep it.
Depends what other accounts/regular savers you have access to. But given YBS have just reduced the rate, they're unlikely to drop it again in the short-medium term. Whereas you could go through the process of opening other 2.5/2.0% accounts now only to find they're weeks away from dropping to 1.5% accounts.

BoE have just reduced the rate to 0.25%, and oops, reduced it again to 0.1%, less than a week later.

Not good news, low interest rates and an economy and stock market in what looks like a recession.

Trying to apply for the OakNorth account but the page just freezes at the last hurdle. Collapsing under the strain I guess.  :(
Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.

What Oaknorth account? I've had an ISA and Fixed term at excellent rates and always found them good to deal with but I wasn't aware they do a Regular Savings Account?
  • Saffron BS has today pulled its RS (paying 2.50%). They still offer a 'Small Saver', max £50 per month, to residents of their 'heartland area'.

My Halifax regular saver has matured and I've applied for a new regular saver.
However, I've just noticed that it has also created an Everyday Saver account at 0.1% - this didn't use to happen, is this now normal?

Yes perfectly normal, dont need to fund it but they say that's where regular save will mature into and I guess hope people use it for convenience.
