I have just applied for the Saffron Account and nothing came up during the application about my address not being in the specified post codes. Can anyone confirm if you can make withdrawals using their online banking as under the withdrawals FAQs its not very clear?
You mean you didn't read this on the pre- application summary page

    Just remember...

    • This account is restricted to customers in the following postcodes; AL, CB, CM, CO, EN, IG, RM, SG and SS

and then this on the application page itself...

    Account Opening Restriction

    • *This account can only be opened if you are resident within the following post code areas:
    • CB,CO,CM,SG,SS,RM,IG,EN and AL
All very clearly displayed right next to the continue button.
    Specsavers ?  ;)

Yes I did read this, thank you. I meant nothing came up to stop me applying because of my postcode! Thought I would give it a try to see if it would let me apply after some people said it didn't stop you
I assumed that once opened, they would just return your deposit and close the account. But let us know what happens.
Staff carry out a manual check a few days after opening, so will close down and transfer any money back to these naughty people who can't abide by the rules - perhaps they should deduct 10% for their time?
Coincidentally they (Saffron) do seem to want me to go to some pensions meeting with them (email and phone call) but won't allow me to take a RS.

Seems it's ok not to live in the post code for that.

I sense my donkeys years relationship with them is coming to an end.

I got the same cold call asking me if I wanted a pension review as well.
I used it as an opportunity to complain about the fact that long term members who live in their historic operating area but not the new smaller operating area (they have cut the number of branches but not the pay of the directors!) were being denied access to certain products. The Saffron caller then said - oh you mean the regular saver!  She agreed to pass on my complaint.
No regular saver - no pension review!

Is anyone aware of a freepost address for Nottingham BS? I am looking to shut my regular saver (special saver 8) account, they said they do not take instruction by email and need a signed letter and passbook. I've noticed they are coy about sending out prepaid envelopes and I think the 2008 list of freepost addresses on MSE Forums is probably now not correct for NBS. Asked in the spirit of maximising net interest returns from regular savers, of course...

No from me but you could always visit a branch when open or pop them through the letter box if you can't or don't want to make their branch opening times.

Can't help with evelopes, but they might not help...
NottinghamBS still haven't replied to my email, so I rang them, and the person I spoke to said not to send request to head office, because hardly anyone is there currently. He said would be better to send passbook to a branch with a covering letter.

A quick google doesn't suggest that the Nottingham B/S has an office there anymore.
The only reference I can find to Freepost MID08185 is from 2008 so it may not still be valid?

Just been through my Nottingham BS stuff, bundles of old Summary Financial Statements back to 1999 and found an envelope with the address above, from 2007. With it is a "Postal Account Transaction Request Form" so I would assume that address was only for use when they had a selection of postal-only accounts available,
Just went checking the Nottingham BS website and noticed they are permanently closing 7 branches at the end of next month too.
  • A word of warning to other NottBS customers. Nottingham didn't follow my instructions in my covering letter to close account my SRS8 account on 2nd November, a cheque dropped through my postbox today. They closed account the day they received the letter.

I had this issue with them in 2017 on a reg saver that included a bonus. They closed it the week before the bonus was paid. A complaint yielded the return of the bonus + £25 goodwill.
