  • New Gatehouse Bank customer - RS@7%. Got timed out of my first online application and I am no slouch. I didn`t even click on T&C`s etc. 2nd time there was no hanging around and I completed ok. First £300 deposit made straight away from nominated account - reassured by Confirmation of Payee acceptance - I presume COP takes into account the reference.
I will get user ID in welcome pack in post in due course.
Is it advisory to install their App as well? Will I be able to see my initial deposit quicker via the App?

Gatehouse Bank Regular Saver 7% (paid at maturity)

£300 Max Per Month pay in

    Source: Money Facts

Worth noting that although the rate is variable, no withdrawals/closure are allowed until the end of the term, unless the rate is reduced.
I see you can carry over payments and miss payments plus min pay in is a £1 so I think it's worth a punt.
You can't carry over payments from previous months. From the terms:

I'd agree though that with a £1 minimum deposit and the ability to skip months it is worth opening, though £1 is all they're getting from me for the next few months at least due to my circumstances.
Will it be possible to open and fund before end of November?
Yes, I just did it. Funded from GH easy access.  Although it says it can take up to 3 days, funds appeared in new RS account immediately.
many thanks for posting about the speed of EA payments - I was on that exact page of the application when you posted, dithering about whether to fund from nominated account or GH EA... as you say, EA transfer was instant... it seems you can make manual transfers from EA to RS too, so although the t&c says that deposits are only accepted from the nominated account, it looks like internal transfers might be acceptable too for future deposits.
I've just looked on the app and the option to transfer from EA to RS is there, so i think you are right.  I'll definitely try it for my 2nd payment on Friday.
Only need to do it once as you can set up an internal recurring transaction to move the funds monthly on whatever date you stipulate.
I set up a scheduled transfer from EA to RS, via the app, for 1st December, but didn't notice a recurring option. Will take another look now, thanks 👍
I couldn't see a scheduled option in the Android app, though it is there when I log into the online banking site - personally, i'll do it manually each month on the 1st as I have others to do on the same day.

while i'm here, my First Direct RS gets it's 12th payment on Saturday (or soon after) - should I manually remove the standing order afterwards, or will FD do that automatically after maturity on 2nd Jan ?
When FD set it up they do it for 12 payments so it will automatically cancel after the 12th payment has gone.

FD works great apart form taking upto 5 days to pay funds, close account and DD.
As soon as they do I start a new Regular saver with them.

For FD, if you open a generic savings account before maturity (or have one left over from a previously matured RS), then the process is quicker. Also in a pinch you can call them and get them to manually transfer the maturing funds to your current account if you need the money sooner

Was so long ago I can’t remember.
You should get a text and email to say deposit has been credited.

I managed to open both the regular saver and easy access accounts online today with no issues and received my User ID by email within an hour or two.

I had a look at the Android app but the reviews are very negative so didn't bother with it.

CoP doesn't take into account the reference, it recognises that the account belongs to Gatehouse, not necessarily that the reference belongs to you, so it is always advisable to check the reference carefully.

I got my user ID from Gatehouse by email about 3 hours after I opened my first Gatehouse account over a year ago, the welcome pack confirmed it.

I can't say I've ever installed the app (I'm at the point where I have to uninstall other apps to be able to install new ones so only really download apps if I have to). I don't think using the app makes any difference as to how quickly payments show.
  • I use the Apple app on my iPad.
    It’s not much cop.
As all you can do is see your accounts.
Fixed, Easy access and Regular saver.

I much prefer apps to online banking and therefore have the Gatehouse app installed, alongside a few dozen other banking apps.It is fairly basic, e.g. you can't apply for new accounts, but it's faster to log in than online banking, especially if you use biometric login. From that point of view, it's a few seconds quicker to check your deposits - but they text you when your deposit has arrived, so there's no pressing need to check.

If your only account with them is the RS, it might not be worth your while to install the app. May be install it and see for yourself.

Re: Gatehouse. I used to have an ISA with them that I switched away for better interest rate. My online account appear to be alive, and I was able to log in, but couldn't apply afterwards, because "all my accounts are closed". Had to apply as a new customer, a bit of pain.

I hope you asked Santa for a new one with plenty of storage capacity, as that must be such a pain.
  • Anyone else encountering difficulties accessing the Gatehouse website this morning.

I already have accounts with them and want to open the new RS but can't even bring the site up.
