masonic, how close to the screen did you scan the cronto, was the action of scanning it fast or slow????
As above, tried to fill the square with the image, it's not much different to scanning a 2D barcode.

This is the part I am stuck on, how to do it lol , when I turn on  hard token I just get not activated goodbye - A Cronto image (similar to a QR code) will appear on screen; turn on your hard token and scan this image.

Did you try activating your hard token?

Yes, hence me reaching this stage of instructions - A Cronto image (similar to a QR code) will appear on screen; turn on your hard token and scan this image.
From your questions I'm assuming that your desktop browser is displaying the Cronto image (coloured QR-like image), but you can't get your hardtoken to recognise the Cronto image.  So, the follow-up questions are:

    1. Does the hardtoken switch-on and display anything on its screen?
If nothing appears, are the batteries charged and properly inserted?
Check for a stuck button - the keys are easy to trap under the shell of the device; if a key is stuck, the device won't switch on!
You need to press and hold  the red on/off key for a couple of seconds to switch it on.

    2. You need to activate the device (supply PIN numbers, successfully attach to the bank web-site etc).  You can check if the device has been activated by pressing and holding the red button for three or four seconds to display the device's internal operations menu; the second menu option lists the activations.

    3.  And to aid those like me that think it operates like a TV remote control, don't point the end of the device at the Cronto image, the "camera lens" is in the back like a smartphone.  That catches me everytime!
red button? interesting, (well sort of!) the hard-token wossname al rayan sent me is a type 780 model and doesn't have any real buttons to press, apart from an on/off switch on the top right hand corner, it's all touch screen and very fiddly to use, no batteries to insert either, instead it's rechargeable via a usb-c port,  unlike the cynergy digipass, a model 770, which does have real buttons and two AAA batteries they supplied to put in and altogether a bit easier to use.
Strewth! Al Rayan are supplying some customers with a hardtoken that's even harder to use than the Digipass 770?!!!

But at least you won't suffer from stuck buttons!

Accidentally, I find out that you do not actually need an Authentication App to access the Mobile Banking on your Desktop. After successfully login to your Mobile App, just use the scan icon (Camera) on your mobile app and then scan the cronto image appear on your desktop, the page will open on your desktop and you could all do the work on your desktop rather than from mobile device.

Now, I already uninstall the AR authentication app. Those who still can not access mobile banking on desktop PC might want to try. But you might not need to access online banking after June 1, 2020 anyway after they start reducing the target profit from 1.6% to 1.35%

From the beginning I already criticize why they need two apps one for Mobile banking and other for authentication as the authentication could be easily built in in the mobile banking itself reducing the need for unnecessary app to be installed on mobile.

You're quite correct that customers who can use the full mobile app, do not need the separate authentication app - can't imagine why it would be useful to have both apps installed on one mobilephone. The authentication app is offered by Al Rayan for those customers who want desktop access but cannot get the full app to install (because it requires a late model mobilephone eg Android8 or later); the authentication app is claimed to install on older mobilephones eg Android4 or later.

[The other option for desktop access is to use the "hard-token" device which fulfills the same function as a mobilephone with the authentication app.]

You have rightly identfied Al Rayan's chaotic approach to accessing their banking service!

Indeed, they seem to be rushing it all in the last minute with quite a few changes. I have spent a lot of time try to find out how to work on my desktop based on the people comments early on this thread here which seem to be working for some people but for some reasons it did not work for me.

Is it possible to install apps in more than one device and all could work in parallel? This feature might be useful if you are accessing the online banking from different places and you might forget to take your Mobile device with you.

Alternatively, is it possible to have both “hard token” and “soft token to work in parallel?

Come June, 1.35% will be next to unbeatable for instant access.

    1. Install the full mobile app on more than one mobilephone?  I don't know.  I had enough trouble getting it to work on one mobilephone without wasting time on duplicating the effort!  (Anyway, I've only one mobilephone that meets the required specification...)

    2. Use "hard token" and "soft token" in parallel?  What do you mean by "soft token"?  If you mean having the choice of using either the full mobile app on a smartphone or use a hard-token to access via a desktop computer, then the answer is "Yes".  I can access the same Al Rayan account using either route (well, it was working last week).  If you mean the "Authentication" app, I don't know - I gave up trying to install it when the hard-token arrived.
  • Apologies for bringing this up but need some help!!
My wife has some fixed terms with Al Rayan and has always been serviced via Windows. I was aware that they were going mobile from all the chat at the time but it was not relevant at the time. However, now need to access for a 2 year fix at 1.37%.
Downloaded the  app onto Samsung S10. It recognised my wife by name/DOB/ac number and 3 security questions.
Downloaded the second app and that asked for user id and password. We put in the info that we used to use on MS Edge as that is the only other info we have. Each time we put in the information and press confirm it closes the APP, have tried it multiple times.

    What am I doing wrong?
