just had a scary email from al rayan saying:-
"to continue to use their digital banking service you must download and register for their new mobile banking app before 26 february. but to use the app you must have a compatible smart phone or device and it must be be operating at least version 12 (iOS) or version 8 (Android); you may need to update your operating system. If you don't have a compatible device, don't worry as there'll be an alternative available."
don't worry? oh, very amusing, especially when they fail to make any mention of what the alternative available is.
does anyone know what it is?

Haven't had the e-mail, but last Friday the App stopped working for me and I'm on Android 7.1.1 so currently have no up to date online access apart from telephone banking.
I requested to be given access back to old desktop version which I now have, however it stops listing transactions from the day I started using the app in early Jan and will not be updated.
I have spent an onerous amount of time on the phone to C/S who seem completely unaware of this and have offered no solutions so I have registered my 2nd complaint within 2 weeks.2 -
I've had the email today. I can't believe they think they won't get a deluge of complaints - it's barely a week's notice.
Further there is 200+ reviews rating the app at average of one and a bit star. The few I read were mostly because of difficulties with getting through to a complete registration.
Note - if you review it at all, one star is the least; so not saying much when the average isn't even near two...
Mine hung on the first attempt after registration - got no 'activate' option just a white screen with 'click start' but no button to click.
Uninstalled it and reinstalled it & got a bit further on 2nd... and eventually succeeded on 3rd installation attempt. I used ac detail (as opposed to facial recognition) and am on Android 9.
I quite like the look, all accounts inc fixes on the dashboard, and speed of login with fingerprint ... but I've not tried any transactions.
eta: 'installation' in 3rd attempt.

I haven't yet had an email yet. I dread to think how I will manage without online banking as there is no way in the app to even see your existing SOs (I have about two dozen), never mind being able to delete them or setting up new ones. I've had terrible trouble setting up the app again after it stopped working following their recent system modifications (I refuse calling them and upgrade.....). I was without access to the app for almost a fortnight. Telephone banking isn't an alternative IMO as it takes forever and a day before they answer the phone. The only upside is that when you eventually do get to speak to an operative, they are skilled and courteous.0

I too received the email yesterday advising me that online banking is being switched off. I tried to download the app but was unable to do so as all the phones in our family run Android versions earlier than 8.
The email states if you don't have a compatible device, don't worry as there'll be an alternative available. Well I am worried. There is no information about what that alternative is and I use online banking to access my instant access account on an almost weekly basis. I tried sending them a secure message but that service doesn't seem to be working.
Has anyone any idea what they are proposing for those not fortunate enough to be able to afford the latest model of mobile phone?

I understand that you will need to request a "token" - similar to HSBC's effort I think - it will arrive in the post and need to be registered and will enable the use of desktop/laptop.

Not everyone owns a ******* smartphone. When i opened my two savings accounts, they didn't say that i would have to buy a smart phone to access them. If they had i would not have opened them.
