Morning.   Duncan’s Dad sorry to hear you won’t qualify for the Covid testing trials.  Well done to you for trying.  Hope you have some good walks today and the forecast storm does not reach you.

Pyxis we were surprised about the bins.   We can buy bags quite cheaply at a neighbouring borough’s library.  Our DS years ago put a compost bin in our garden but I have never been able to use it properly.   I’m no gardener.   I always dreamt of being one and when I retired I thought I would take it up.  Here we are lucky enough to have a garden.   I used to have a tiny veg patch and grew a few things but then we are next to a Road and the traffic increased so I stopped that.  This year loads of HolyHocks have appeared on this patch.  We are not vegetarians but don’t eat a lot of meat.  We  eat a lot of veg and more fruit since we have an Odd box delivery.   A friend told me a lot of people are using the food waste bags to
Bit puzzled by you saying you've never been able to use it properly. What's been the problem?
If you eat a lot of veg, you must have a fair few peelings/ends/leaves/innards which you could put in it. Plus a lot of cardboard packaging can go in it, too, and clean paper, egg boxes, washed egg shells, used tea and coffee grounds, etc. etc., as well as normal garden clippings and sweepings. Even hoover bag contents, hair from brushes, newspaper, and old dead pot plants (inc. earth).

A bin takes absolutely ages to fill up, as it keeps breaking down and shrinking! I think my first bin-full took about 10 years to fill with compost, which is now in tubs and I've started on the next bin load.

Ho Pyxis I could easily fill it up it’s the using it once its composted I’ve never got my head around.  We don’t have a lot of garden as we have a paved area and a garage across the bottom part of garden.  Grass with narrow borders.  We mainly have shrubs growing there and I don’t have any pots.   DS bought the bin and started filling it up.   He went off to America and although he’s back he doesn’t live here or do anything in this garden.
Maybe you have prompted me to actually see what it’s like in the bin.  It’s been there for years.   Will let you know how I get on.  Thanks for your thoughts.

    Good Morning all
Lovely here again, clean and fresh after the rain of yesterday.
I was locked outside for a while yesterday while Dad had a video consult with his Crohn's guy, seems that his numbers are still improving after his operation last year and things are looking up :)
I have nothing planned for today but I think Dad wants to borrow the computer for a while to do a bit of graphics work, I will need to see what he bribes me with ;)

Hi.  Strange day here very windy but lots of sun and quite warm.
Great to hear your Dad had a good report on the videos call.  Hope you had some good rewards today as well as walks.
Firefly you have been busy baking today hope you found a good film to watch.  We watched Quartet with Maggie Smith and a host of other good actors on BBC the other evening.   I too have been cooking.  Yesterday loads of fish pies, today scones and a big pasta dish. So now have a few ready meals in the freezer.
Hope everyone enjoys the weekend.  Take care.

    Happy Sunday :)
Dry here today, we are going to the shop this morning to get some more fruit.
Dad was cooking yesterday as well, he was gifted a big bag of damsons so he spent about 3 hours washing, stoning and cooking them into jam only to find this morning that it has not set so he will need to boil it again :(
    Have a good one.

You could put a sign out the front saying "Free Compost - bring your own bags and shovel" and let people help themselves, or stick it on Freegle. I bet it would soon go!

Thanks for the suggestion Pyxis.  I have not had a look at the bin yet.  Yesterday I realised it’s been forgotten as some kerria has grown beside it and there is some overhanging weigela.  I’ve just looked up kerria to see how to spell it and found out it should be pruned after its flowered.  We had lots of it this year. I know how to prune the weigela.

FireFly you were busy yesterday with the baking.  I had a cooking free day yesterday except I did steam some veg for our dinner to go with the sheperd’s pie from freezer.  We had apples in our box last week so I need to do something with them today.   Duncan’s Dad great to be given the plums but must have been frustrating that jam had not set.

DH has a hospital appointment today.   We don’t have a direct bus to the hospital anymore and there are so few parking spaces there and surrounding roads are for permit holders only.   It’s too far for him to walk all the way there as there will be a lot of walking In the hospital.  Unfortunately I don’t drive.   At least appointment is over lunch time and there will be less people on the buses.

    Have a good day all.

    Hiya All
Monday again, where do the days go?
Hope yer man gets to his appointment OK leanfun, it is the same at the hospital here, no close by parking spaces no matter how many car parks there are.
Dad's jam is set after the second boil, he was being just a bit too careful the first time, if it boils too long the flavour just goes up in steam :( it must taste pretty good as he has just had his second slice of bread with it ;)
Sunny here today after a cold start, we are heading to the park as soon as Dad finishes eating.

Thanks Duncan’s Dad.  DH was back in no time.  Turns out he managed to walk the first part as there was no sign of a bus coming.  He said the shopping area in the centre was deserted.   He was early for the appointment and was seen straight away.     He had a heart scan but they also measured and weighed him.  He was pleased that he has lost a few Kgs since early June.  He also was able to collect some batteries for his hearing aid.
It’s still quite warm here today.

Afternoon everyone, I have been working for the last 4 days and finally have some time off now. Glad to hear your DH wasn't badly hurt when he slipped on the stairs leanfun. We don't have a food waste bin collection round here, but i made myself a small compost spot. Although I still put some in the bin. Our recycle bins are checked every 2 weeks when they are emptied by the men looking in them before they take them and if there is even i carrier bag in there they refuse to take it.
Charlie and Obi are getting on ok but Charlie gives him a wide berth since he bopped him on the nose, lol. I am so behind with the comps it's untrue, so better go and play catch up. Well done on the wins leanfun
    Take care..
