Glad your DH got on so well today leanfun and well done on the win, or was it just a free sample?
Indie, the scaffies round here check the bins as well and if the garden waste bin is too heavy they won't empty it as there might be stones or too much soil, they also refuse to take a bin if the lid won't close.
I watched some football this evening while Dad was watching the swifts darting about catching flies so we both had a good time on our last walk of the day, we are still keeping up with the 10 miles a day even with standing still for 20 minutes tonight.
I won't click that link bones, for one it would upset Dad to see just how lucky she is/was but more because newspaper links are awful for slowing down the puter
G'night all1 -
Morning all quiet here outside no wind. Duncan’s Dad it was a win. I think from the Health comp where there’s a list you can tick what you would like to win. Pleased you are keeping up the walking. Don’t think we have seen swifts here. We used to have a lot of starlings in a neighbouring Road on the trees and they made a great racket. Our Robin has definitely disappeared.
Firefly we too have had enough of crumbles. I make them rather than pies as you can put less sugar and fat in than pastry. I googled Marry Berry Apple cake and found a recipe on line. You make a cake mixture and put half in the bottom of cake tin then a layer of apple and then the rest of mixture. I sprinkled a few sultanas on top of the apples. As we don’t have much baking equipment I made it in a bigger tin than she recommended but it turned out fine and just means you eat a bit less that’s my aim. I put lots of apple in but froze the rest and some of the cake when it had cooled down.Indie hope you have a rest now sounds like you Worked a lot of days all together. Take care. Sounds interesting watching Charlie and Obi working out how to get on.Bones I saw that story in the Mail online. Reading between the lines sounds as though she might be going through a quiet patch with wins. I started comping nearly six years ago and have had some very good wins as FireFly says it gives us hope.
Hope everyone has a good day stay safe from the storm this time.1 -
Morning. It was very windy late last night but we managed to get to sleep. It’s all quiet out there now. Hope everyone is ok. Some places seem to have had the storm really bad.
FireFly I’ll have a look at the other recipes too. The other Mary Berry ones I have made so far were easy and came out well especially the lemon one, when we had a load of lemons. I’m just wary of getting into baking. A friend moved to Madeira and took up baking. She makes amazing cakes. Her and her husband put on so much weight. I think I might have said they weighed DH at the hospital and he had lost a few kgs since he was there in June. I think I’ve made a lot of crumbles as you can get away with less fat and sugar and only a thin layer of crumble on top of a lot of fruit. We have a Sainsbury’s order coming today. We had a problem months ago ordering bananas. I thought I was ordering a kg but when order came it was one banana. Next order husband ordered 4 and 16 came. At the time they were delivering food in carrier bags so we didn’t realise until later we had so many. I put tinfoil around the top of some of them and put some in a dark cupboard but they ripened too quickly for us. Our DDs had been making banana cakes so I had a go but we didn’t like it that much. So yesterday DH had another go ordering 4 bananas we will seehow many come.DH has been the same as you FireFly looking for the small birds and wondering where they have gone. We have not seen the cat lately. I keep wondering when I lock the side door to the carnage that is in our garden whether I’m locking the cat it. It did happen once years ago. A lady came to say she could hear her cat meowing in our garage. The cat was behind a cupboard and would not come out. The lady came out with her hair covered in cobwebs.
Take care all.2 -
Good Morning from a very wet Fife.
We got soaked every time that we went out yesterday and the only difference that I can see today is that there is almost no wind compared with the almost gale force yesterday.
Dad could send you his mum's recipe for Apple scone round if you like, he has not made it himself as it has milk in and he never buys milk (doesn't use it in anything).
Hope the rain stops soon as Dad doesn't take me to the park when it is too wet, it's on reclaimed land and the drainage is just awful.
Take Care.3 -
Morning. Delivery was ok and they sent 4 bananas. Firefly when we had Tesco orders we used to buy the ones in the bag. At the beginning of lockdown we couldn’t get an order with them even though we were a fairly regular customer and husband was on the vulnerable or whatever it was called list. He then had an email from Sainsbury’s to say he was on their priority list. Last year he bought a lot of coffee from them when it was reduced. Sainsbury’s is more expensive but we had to take what we could get. Now they have sent us money off vouchers so are using them.
Pleased you like the Mary Berry recipes. I’ve found them easy as we don’t have a mixer. Ours broke years ago and the one I won I gave to DD2. We have fruit with our cereal. I’m like Duncan’s Dad no milk on it’s own for me but I can take it in something else. So yes please to the apple scone recipe I would love to try it.
Firefly you are lucky if you don’t put weight on. I used to be really small until mid forties the I just piled the weight in. Pleased the cat that was shut in shed was ok.
Duncan hate to say but we never had much rain here in the daytime. Felt sorry for you getting so wet each day. Hope it’s fine now.
Have a good day all.2 -
Morning, sunny start to the day here and no wind. It was dry yesterday but the wind was blowing everything around the garden.
We did our 2nd COVID test yesterday and it was quicker now we know what we are doing, but hope they bring the new one out soon. They keep talking about it so hopefully, it will be ready for the next test date.
Well done on your DH losing weight leanfun.i hope your banana order turned out ok. I would be the same if I ordered online.Your neighbour going in your garage and coming out covered in cobwebs was brave. I was going to sort my garage out the other week as it's full of stuff my brother put in but I don't think he is coming back for it after 7 years,so I decided to sort it and dump a lot of things but I opened the door and a big spider run under a piece of wood. I closed the door and haven't been back in there since lol
Let's hope the rain stops Duncan and you and your dad can go out without getting wet. Our weather goes from one extreme to another and it's a guess what each day is going to be like now.
Glad to hear your cat was ok ff after being shut in the garage. Talking of cats Obi is ok he sniffed Charlie again the other day I think he wants to play but Charlie doesn't want to. Hopefully, that will change and if it doesn't then they will learn to tolerate each other.DS has a scan this morning, so off out soon.
Hope you all have a good day
Stay safe

hi all
great the banana delivery was ok leanfun, understand what you're saying about the problems begining of lockdown with deliveries, i had the same issue with tesco & asda but now online slots seem to be settling down a bit, asda now have given us a regular slot every week so i'm lucky i can just reorder/add/remove whatever i want each week & doesn't seem to be any shortage on the goods thankfully, tesco i have priority slots but still have to get in after midnight or very early the next morning to bag the priority slot before they get taken up, but again seems to be not a lot of shortage on the goods, we used to shop with sainsbury's now & again but haven't done for a while now, great they sent you money off vouchers to use that's always good news
indie, wasn't my cat that was shut in the shed lol, it was a neighbours from down the street, just glad we managed to get it back home after a lot of fussing & making sure it had food & water, hope obi & charlie will be friends soon, fingers crossed DS's scan will be ok xhope all's ok with you duncantake care allplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.2 -
Hello Friday
Dad pinched all my computer time yesterday, he was installing a new printer/scanner and also trying to find out why Windows would no longer recognise a microphone being plugged in, when he finally gave up and went to ask an expert the advice was to throw away his old 'jack' mic and get a new USB one as the cost to get the old one working would be 10 times the price of a new one.
With all that going on and also Dad returning 12 of MY footballs back to the club, I did not have a very good day, well apart from lots of walks when Dad took a break to do some thinking.
I will post the recipe for the apple scone later, I will try out the new scanner to copy the page.
Looks like being a dry weekend here for a change but it was a cold east wind first thing.
Take Care

Morning. Fine here now but rain forecast later. Absolutely poured down late afternoon yesterday.Sounds like you are going to have a good weekend weather wise Duncan. Know what you mean about installing things on devices. DH was so pleased when he installed our new printer/scanner. Shame about the old jack microphone that’s how it goes these days. I had a bit of a mad moment this year and bought our grandchildren cheap, ie they were reduced, microphones from Dawsons for their birthdays. It was interesting that 9 year old GS started to do a football commentary with the two friends he had round. I’ve since heard him on FaceTime singing with the mic.
Look forward to trying the apple scone recipe.
Hope everyone has a good weekend.2
