Footballer land, isn't it? Lots of aspirational footballers too, now knocking-on a bit, feeling their age and wanting less maintenance/outgoings perhaps.joho said:Wowser! Look at the swags and pelmets going on here.

I think we are looking, here, at an era where people entertained with dinner parties rather than the eating out we are more used to now. Particularly in rural areas where all there was was a local pub doing sweaty cheese rolls if they went beyond a bag of scratchings.Ditzy_Mitzy said:
The kitchen in the second one seems nonsensically lavish, too. What does one do with all that stuff? Do rich people eat more? Do they insist on a 1:1 ratio between numbers of chicken legs in a packet and cookers to cook them in?2 -

I won't knock swag and tails. They made my mum's fortune in the 1980s - '90s. She owned a shop in a posh village, all custom made / hand made to her own individual patterns to suit the window size. I occasionally see her work on rightmove. She was, as they say, in the right place at the right time. She'd struggle now.joho said:Wowser! Look at the swags and pelmets going on here.

I was placing it a bit earlier, and thinking if I woke up in the master bedroom I'd stare at that ceiling and think I'd just come round in an early 80s function room.Ditzy_Mitzy said:
The decoration in both places is unusual, very much middle-market business hotel and conference centre circa 2003.joho said:Wowser! Look at the swags and pelmets going on here.

I got that vibe too. Especially from picture 4 in the first link, the dining room. One of the many things I thought was weird about both of them was the difference in some of the rooms. Most of them are someone's idea of stylish and fancy (not mine!) but then a couple of the rooms (eg the downstairs loos) look really basic and grotty.user1977 said:Ditzy_Mitzy said:

Also I hate oversized kitchen islands as in the second link. I don't see the point of having a huge kitchen and then just giving yourself a narrow walkway around each side, might as well have a galley kitchen! (But that's just me, I've always had galley kitchens and I cannot wait to one day have a kitchen that is square and you can move around in, instead of doing everything in a narrow straight line!)2 -

Not usually a fan of coloured suites but that room seems to work, for some reason - looks really nice and tranquil.9
