There may also be interference here from the virus situation... :)
I mean, if they're using MOT centres as drive through COVID testing stations, it's likely to be a while before things normalize.
  • Originally mine was due to end on 12 May.  I tried to book an MoT last week but only 16 April times were shown.  Booked one (though I knew that it would be cancelled and a Temporary Exemption issued).  Got the Exemption letter on 7 April.  Like everyone, hope and wish for a return to "normality" for all.

Anyone know how long MOT Apt refunds take?
My MOT was due in May, I booked end of March, got exemption letter 02/04/20. It said you wil receive a refund for your test fee; no refund as yet. Who should I check with if refund hasn't come through by say the beginning of May?
    Thx

    Ty Sunshine 👍😀

It seems to be a common theme

I Googled it a bit and can't find anyone from Feb who's had a refund; it's not a fortune I know but for a lot of ppl £30 is still £30 (a decent grocery shop).
It seems to be a lot of money for a department to be sitting on that is, by all accounts, self sufficient given it's income from test fees. I'm guessing its a collective 6 figure sum since Feb if everyone has to book to get an exemption letter😱

I booked my MOT on 3rd March for a 7th April date.  Naturally the following day this was cancelled and an exemption certificate was issued. Yesterday  21st April my fee was refunded to the credit card, which I had used to pay for the test.

I haven't got a refund yet either, I booked on 7th March for a test on 22nd April, I got the cancellation letter after about 2 weeks.
Refund received on 23rd April, the day after the test was due.

I am devastated.  My MOT has not been renewed and is showing as expired.  I cannot tax my car or get through to the call centre.  I live rural and have no means of getting medication or hospital appointments.  Did it take a while for anyone else to show as extended?. My Mot was booked for 6th April and it expired 29th April.  Road tax expires 1st May.

Dreadful situation, don't forget you won't be insured either. Have you thought of contacting your MLA? You can also try emailing as there is currently no telephone service apparently https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/articles/vehicle-test-centres
