    Just an update...
Was checking my mot exemption certificate today and it was not showing as the full 6 months from the date the MOT was due (showing as up until September)
I checked on the website https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ and it showed I was MOT'd for the full 6 months (up until November).
I rang NI direct and they said the website date was correct and to disregard the date on the paper exemption certificate. They also said it was highly likely I would get another 6 months on top of this to take me through to next year. They said to not contact them as they would send out a reminder letter 6 weeks before they required an MOT to be booked.

I just checked mine too. It had said "August", previously. Now it's changed to February. No notification of that in any form at all, just the online information has changed.

    All very weird and disorganised.
Wouldn't mind if you were notified of changes or to tell you the info on the certificate is incorrect.

Did anyone get the goodwill amount that was announced for those who faced suspensions earlier in the year?

Im still totally baffled as to whether I will have to MOT this year. Read the government advice but still dont get it. Is everyone getting 12 month exemption this year or not? My MOT is due in November so will I have to get it done or are they doing the backlog ones first?
I started out with nothing......And still have most of it left:p

Have they updated your MOT date online? If not, then I'd assume it's still on for November, but check again nearer the time.

I dont see anywhere on the .gov website to get that information.  This is what the statement says:
All eligible vehicles not in the priority groups will be granted a Temporary Exemption Certificate (TEC) exempting them from an MOT for 12 months.
So does that mean that I will get an exemption from November this year until Nov 2021? Or 12 months from the start of the crisis meaning tested in March-August 2021?

  • I’ve only got an extension for 10 months rather than 12 months. My MOT was originally due at the end of March, but this got extended to the end of July because of the failure of the lifts. It’s now been extended again but I thought it would be until March, to give the full 12 months since the last due date. Instead, I’ve got January for some reason...

the only reason I wanted it to be March is because it’s so much easier to remember the dates when everything is due at the same time, but presumably I’ll just have to get used to remembering a new date for the MOT, whilst everything else remains the same?

Yes, that's the one. Enter your car details (or anyone else's, for that matter) and see whether the vehicle is insured and when the MOT is due.
