Im still totally baffled as to whether I will have to MOT this year. Read the government advice but still dont get it. Is everyone getting 12 month exemption this year or not? My MOT is due in November so will I have to get it done or are they doing the backlog ones first?
Have they updated your MOT date online? If not, then I'd assume it's still on for November, but check again nearer the time.
Its still going to be your MOT due date until they extend it?  Thats what they've been doing so far and they've only been extending it close to the expiry date

This seems to be saying MOTs will be restarting in September.  My car is due mid September so i am under the impression that i'll need to get a date booked when they start taking bookings.

From 1 September, the DVA plans to extend vehicle testing to further categories of vehicles. These categories include:

    • four year old private cars
    • four year old motorcycles
    • three year old light goods vehicles
    • buses
    • heavy goods vehicles: and
    • trailers

The DVA will no longer be issuing Temporary Exemption Certificates for the vehicles in the categories listed above, and will instead issue reminder notices to the owners with instructions on how to book a test. Reminders will be sent as the vehicles approach their test due date. Please note that capacity within the test centre network remains limited due to COVID 19.

I just checked mine too. It had said "August", previously. Now it's changed to February. No notification of that in any form at all, just the online information has changed.
I know you posted this a week ago, so things may have changed, but where are / were you seeing February?

Is your first MOT due in September 2020 (i.e. your car is 4 years old) or has it been previously MOT'd and that expires in September 2020?  If the latter (i.e. car is over 4 years old and previous MOT is expiring September 2020) then on my reading it doesn't fall within the categories for which they are no longer issuing Temporary Exemption Certificates (TEC) , therefore you should get a TEC and won't need to, or even be able to book an MOT.

I think they are saying that their 'MOT Expires' date on https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ has changed from August 2020 to February 2021.

Yes, that's the one. Enter your car details (or anyone else's, for that matter) and see whether the vehicle is insured and when the MOT is due.
Mot and Tax yes. Insurance no?

The car is 2006, so yes, on re-reading and reading what you said it does seem like i will get a TEC for the car.

    Thank you :)

To update, my car was actually MOT'd to Oct 20 not Sep 20.  I've checked online and its coming up as MOT'd to 13 Apr 21 now, so an automatic six month extension.

    Well pleased with that. :)

Has anyone received the refund of half of the MOT fee?
I know this was a while ago but I have just today received refund of half the MOT fee from February - "compensation. MOT cancelled due to lift fault".
