Eire NCT has taken a more pragmatic approach

“NCTS were recently made aware of a defect with a similar make and model of MAHA lift. Following that information, condition surveys have been instigated.”

The statement continues: “All customers should continue to book and turn up for their NCT as normal.

“The test will be completed with the omission of the underbody inspection, which will be conducted at a later date when the lifts are returned to use.

“Customers will incur no additional costs as part of this process.

The Vehicle Inspection report will be issued at the time of testing and a certificate will be issued when all stages of the test have been successfully completed.

Vehicle Inspection report will be accepted by Garda, Insurance companies, Road Tax etc

    .

I think thats how it should be handled here to be honest. Present the car as normal, skip the bit they cant do. They'll still be able to test brakes and shocks along with lights etc. No reason they couldnt check tyres to some extent too, even if just with a mirror on a stick or a a video cam of some sort.

Well I just got my MOT (booked a month or so ago) done in Belfast. All 5 lanes are open, and he drove my car round to use the pit in lane one, the lorry lane. Plenty of cars going through and the only difference was fewer cars in the air, and a bit more driving around.

The Belfast centre is now booked out to the end of March. I'd have changed to there if i could have.

If i'd thought at the time i'd have booked it there, but mines in Armagh which isnt operational so unless things change drastically in the next 3 weeks i'm expecting a cancellation phone call. I'm not hugely bothered as i'll just get the exemption in the meantime but i'd rather it was done and dusted.

Current MOT expires 12th March, Armagh booked for 22nd Feb.

I guess i'll have to wait on the exemption and then rebook for some point down the line.

Had test booked at Lisburn this morning, was undecided whether to go or not. Decided to go, was taken on time, no problem at all. Lisburn have 2 lifts working as well as the HGV Lane, if you’ve a test booked there just go. Possibly other centres are also testing but keeping it secret.
My 13 year old car passed, happy days!

Does anyone have a definitive list of centres that are still testing?
