They wore different clothes – I did a clothes purge not too long ago. But I will be trying to wear shirts more and be generally more presentable than usual.

They listened to different music – I have the vast majority of my CDs downloaded onto an external HDD. I will be trying to listen to them more. I usually search for songs on a well-known video streaming site. It usually leads me to find new things that I haven't heard before.

They danced different dances - Working on it.

They "dated," - Date Night occurs on a weekly basis, SWMBO and I alternate. Usually it's a takeaway because of Little Flappette.

The flappers used make-up. Put my make up on for date night. I will sim for a spritz of perfume each day this month and treat my feet to a soak and a scrub each week

Flapper Gentlemen, moisturise! I do use lip balm on a daily basis, but might see if we have any moisurising lotion in the bathroom. I did see some E45 a while ago in the bathroom.

The Roaring Twenties was the birthplace of the consumer society (boo! hiss!). I need to work on paying back my savings. We have a few months of SWMBO being home alone with Little Flapette. Budgeted for, but can't just write it off.

It was also the time of Agatha Christie – I have the entire set of books. I would like to build my bookcase and have them all out on display rather than stuffed up in a box in the loft.

Aiming for 15 NSDs - NSD number 1 today. :)

Plan ahead – Made the monthly purchase of toiletries, kitchen necessities and other essentials. I need to do a proper food budget. Also trying to avoid unnecessary packaging, particularly that cannot be recycled.

    Post 3 gratitude's:
Today I'm grateful for Little Flappette, new anime on Netflix and the drive to gradually improve myself.

Most DIY problems can be solved by a combination of spanner, pliers, screwdriver, Allan key and a blade. (Hold it, twist it, cut it!) Very occasionally industrial language, a hammer and an adhesive may need to be added to the mix. (Curse it, hit it, patch it!)

They wore different clothes – I have decided to wear more dresses and skirts, after examining my wardrobe. I only have 3 pairs of decent trousers left (and 4 pairs of at-home trousers), and have made the resolution that even at home, I will wear flattering stuff instead of 'wearing out' old stuff ALL the time. I'm worth more than that!

They listened to different music – I cleared out my CD's last year, so that's more or less done. Now I need to just play them more often :). I limit my collection to one cubbyhole in my kitchen. If it doesn't fit, something needs to leave. I threw out most copies, preferring originals.

They danced different dances; Sing loudly - I sing along to the CD's, and I sing in church, and every evening with DDs; I love singing!
I met husband on a salsa dance course 13 years ago. Sadly, we don't dance very often anymore (salsa nights usually don't start until midnight, and we couldn't afford babysitters for a long time). I will persuade him to dance in our living room more often.

They "dated" - See the list I made earlier. I moved to a different country 12 years ago, and have not made many friends here yet. Lots of acquaintances, but not many friends. My real friends are still back home, and I will skype them all this month.

The flappers used make-up - I dyed my eyebrows Saturday morning. I look a boiled egg without my dyed eyebrows! It only takes 10 minutes, and costs about 50p.

The Roaring Twenties was the birthplace of the consumer society (boo! hiss!) - We have no debt other than the mortgage, but we have big renovation plans for this year, which will cost in the region of €150.000.

Examine all the tiny clues of your spending, and understand your triggers - This I need to do.

Plan ahead – budget in advance as much as possible. Bills. Travel. Birthdays are on the same date every year. Keep a diary, or at least a calendar (they are reduced right now). If you don’t know it is coming up, you can’t budget for it. Hmmm, I think I'm all set. Husband is an unknown factor in this, he often spends on a whim (but never large amounts).

Post 3 gratitudes, and stop by regularly to let us know how you are getting along. Gorgeous weather on Saturday on our family outing, a good night's sleep, delicious homemade soup from freezer courgette and celery with some leftover stew meat.

Stay away from chain coffee shops / big business food franchises/ takeaways unless they are part of your “dates” and have been budgeted for. Set yourself the budget before you go and stick to it. - We never go; Saturday was a real exception.

    Turtle flappper sneaking in.:D

    Spent both days over weekend.:(

Can I moan? Had fluffy ears Saturday, basically been out night before, noisy pub and singer and had problems hearing anyone talk. Bought ears drops, so now got oily ears. Other problem is Sciatica - not sleeping at night and nerve is trapping sitting down in work.:(

Did gentle walk zoo on Saturday with gk, but bought coffees as it was so windy for a treat whilst gd ate ice cream.:o

Sunday - lovely walk with friend, met through a facebook friendzone group. Gentle walk, coffee and sat in sun watching Mountain goats. Note to self. Walking in sand not best idea for Sciatica.

Make up - can't go without it, but got full body massage booked this week and a haircut. So hopefully I will be more mobile and look cute:D

Will kick myself into gear and see what clothes I get into later, so many not worn.

Shopping day after work, Milk and loo rolls needed. Just need veg freezer looks healthy. Need petrol as well.

Right it's about time to get on with the challenge.

My first challenge is to stop flapping about! Since last Thursday I have -smashed a tyre, cracked the glass on my phone, lost my ID for work and thats just the the big stuff. So I'll be getting back to exercise, have made a plan for week - where I can do exercise but still pay attention to wonky ankle.

So who were the 1920’s flappers?
My Grandmother was a flapper, and she was the first lady driver in the village. I have given up on firsts ... might be more like lasts. But this month will be when I rejig the portfolio book I started before Christmas. I didn't like the cover so got stuck. So will reproduce, rework and yes I just got an idea. Will use jeans and card pva glue and paint. All can be ressourced in house.

They wore different clothes – I used to make all my own clothes, at the moment I am just repurposing stuff I have supplemented by charity shops. The problem is getting nice materials, and also I am a sewing machine short since my old one literally caught fire.

They danced different dances - Not enough dancing happening in my life. Sister is visiting in April, maybe I'll book us into a music event.

They "dated," - make at least 3 dates this month –
    3 dates in february
1- go to cinema w ds
2- go and see an exhibition w boys
3- go for a long walk

    The flappers used make-up.
Remember to wear makeup to work everyday - so easy and yet so far away.

Well my DMP is ticking away, in the mean time I am working on paying some private debt, and paying for citizenship stuff passport, life in UK test and possibly a language test. Hoping to be a UK citizen at the end of the year.

Tracking spending patterns big time - avoided one last Wednesday, so will be on guard all month.

    1/14 (20) NSD

Plan ahead - still looking to have the £500 I make in cover every month at the beginng of the month so I am spending last month's money so to say.

Siebrie! Another Womble returns. Nice to see you again.

I have not managed a single no spend day yet. All my big spends go out the first few days of the month, so although it is all within budget, I have spent every day.

Managed to patch all the kids up enough to send them in to school (with tissues, cough sweets, and plenty of drinks) so I get a phone call at 11.20 to go pick up DS3 who can't stop coughing. Apparently he was fine, up until 3rd lesson -PE - cross country- when his cough returned. Go figure! So he is upstairs in bed with a hot cup of tea and a big smile on his face, and V1cks on his feet. Muppet. I cannot win. I give up.
I have been through my wardrobe and found what in my head is a summer dress but I can wear it with thick tights and boots. Bung a cardie on top and job done. Will look for a long cardigan in the c/s this week once I am child free. I will be child free. I will.

I have moisturised, and have painted my nails blue, supper is made (veg stew or tomato and red pepper soup), I did 2 hours of volunteering this morning and will go back tonight. Did the voucher shop in Mr T's (where I got the phone call to pick up DS3)

Did you know today was national Carrot cake appreciation day? I did not know that. I did know that today was not remortgage day. Swines.

For speakers of other languages - I really can't say how generous pr0lific Academ1c is for surveys in other european languages - It is £5-£10 for the ones I do in German, although to be honest it is still pretty generous for the ones in English. Well worth doing for a little supplementary income. They pay into your bank, you can request it as soon as you hit £5.

Gratitudes: central heating, hot water bottles, cough sweets, hot tea, and dh feeling better after feeling terrible last night.

Still on NSD No 1 but not as bad as it sounds. Using up the leftover chicken tonight and needed some salad things to go with it. Made stock and soup with the carcass for dinner tomorrow night.

Boy's bedding washed and I'll get everything ironed up tomorrow. Himself is going out with friends so hoping to sort out the wardrobe and do a bit of pampering whilst I'm here by myself. Planning for a small lunch out on Friday at a local, family run Italian restaurant. Food is lovely, it's very reasonable and we like to support a local business.

Did the budget today and it's all looking good. Think I should be able to save a bit this month. Must keep an eye on food spending, though, and not impulse buy. There is so much in the freezers and cupboards not to mention the obscene amount of chocolate that Himself has (Christmas presents and a raid on the Lindt shop in Paris!!!).

Since I'll be in by myself I might even manage a little dance when no one is looking.

  • Hi all
    NSD 3

I have found the pricelist for the local college, I'm going to book in for £11 haircut, much less than my usual one.

I am trying to listen to different music , after 50 years easy to get into a grove of listening to old favourites. This month I have started listening to Rumer, this is new music to me.

Grateful for Tesco vouchers, day light when I finish work and yellow stickers for tea.

Have had a fairly productive day, made two loaves of seeded bread, I did them in a dutch oven for the first time, made a moroccan type dish for tea - gorgeous, and a batch of blueberry and blackberry muffins for lunchboxes. Walked the dog for an hour in the woods, posted an ebay sale, school run twice and went to the greengrocer for plastic free fruit and veg.

Had an issue with my ebay fees so I rang them. The account is in DH's name and I usually get through to someone in a far flung land so I get away with it but today it was an Irish chap so I had to put a voice on for the whole 13 minute phone call, I was almost hysterical by the end of it - I think I was doing an impression of Moira Rose.

Forgot to list my gratitudes and today I have a huge one. Some of you may remember that some months ago I got involved in a campaign to prevent planning permission for a facility that the local council were going to site virtually on our doorstep. They were trying to sneak it through and I must admit I wasn't convinced that we could stop them but today they withdrew the planning application because of the opposition of the residents living nearby. Just goes to show you can prevent your environment deteriorating if you are in the right and you all pull together.

  • NSD achieved here :j went out for long walk with pal at local site but used membership so no cost. Was lovely. Photographed a book on the shop I’m going to look on the library site for.

Leftovers for food today, will clear some space in fridge.

    Grateful things:
Lovely scenic NT place only 20 minutes away
Good conversation and fresh air with pal
    My wonderful DH and smalls
