  • Thanks for that just feels alien now not trying to pay these bills, but must admit it does relieve some pressure. Glad not to have to be pleading to family again.
And you say I don’t have to tell the cc companies of my plans
  • Hi again, sorry for all the questions.
Could someone please tell me roughly what sort of evidence and paperwork stepchange tend to ask for, just so as I can start gathering prior to applying
    many thanks

I would expect - evidence of ID, evidence of income and a letter for each of your debts.

If an expenditure item seems high they could ask for evidence of that
  • That’s great thank you.
Just to reiterate what others have said on here the help and advice you guys give is truly priceless
    Thank you again

Hi, just butting in here to add my support for StepChange. They are brilliant. If you haven't phoned them yet 0800 138 1111, please do. They'll let you know exactly what they need from you, they'll go over everything on the phone with you and let you know what they think is your best option. I had a DRO a few years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I would never have managed without the help of people at StepChange who knew what they were doing and provided a fabulous service, all free. Do it, phone them! You will never regret it. Oh, I forgot to say that they do not judge you, at all! Good luck - but you won't need it once you have spoken to someone at StepChange. (They haven't paid me to say all this, although I do keep praising them on different posts. Hope nobody things I'm barmy!)
Please note - taken from the Forum Rules and amended for my own personal use (with thanks) : It is up to you to investigate, check, double-check and check yet again before you make any decisions or take any action based on any information you glean from any of my posts. • Thank you for that very reassuring it’s nice to get so much positive I'm just waiting for the new POA to be registered changed from myself to my sister as I know my present POA will be stopped as soon as I apply for the DRO so didn’t want any hiccups with that with regard my dad. So as soon as that’s done I will be contacting stepchange to begin the process. To be honest I can’t wait to get started because I think the thought of doing it is more stressful than actually doing it. Nerves are shot but as stated before maybe short term pain for long term gain.

And just a word of caution. The regulatory framework is now so tight on debt advice that it is difficult to work within it (Debt Camel for more detail). There will be more hoops to jump through so it may not be such a smooth process but the options remain the same

Update: Just checked the register and My name is on there, DRO was granted Yesterday.
Huge thank you to all of you once again.
Is there anything I should do or look out for apart from saving copy of a register entry?
Few of the creditors contacted me today notifying that "breathing space" has ended and asking to contact them, Should I contact them and let them know my DRO was approved or wait until insolvency agency will notify them?

  • I’m so stressed out! I’ve just rang step change, they’ve asked for a letter confirming there is no extra overtime (it was during peak Christmas period I worked Christmas Day/New Years day) hence the extra £150. And my wage slip from this month is back at the usual amount. She said it’s going to the data checking team or something. I’m just so worried about it all- and she said to wait 7 days, I can’t sleep as I’m just worrying I’ve got this far and it’s all going to go wrong, can anyone offer some relief....how long is the process, when will I know and also I’m super worried they’ve worked out I have £29 a month left over...I’m going through a messy split hence why I’m in this mess and my husband who was helping me keep things ticking over has cut off any further funds. I now contribute to the house, but I can’t afford to leave. We co exist which I can cope with as he is not here for work quite a lot. But with 3 kids, and all this going on i feel exhausted. Thanks for listening if you’ve got this far.

  • Just to add I got the letter from work and my wage slip all sorted so have sent them over.
