You are getting this het up about the corners of three bricks?
Even TW don't care that much, theyve just fixed it and got on with it because its not even worth claiming from RM!
I assumed theyd smashed through your front window the way you were talking... next time buy a house with a front garden so no one will be parking/driving near your house.0 -
Try to see it as something to dine out on for many years to come. It's hardly traumatic
My thoughts exactly, all sorted out and you have a story to tell , you will most likely have many more ups and downs in life , just count this as an experience, no harm done !Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -
On the 3rd May 1941, the Luftwaffe launched a major blitz on the city of Liverpool. One of their pipe cluster bombs dropped prematurely in my village, adjacent to my house. The true extent of the damage came to light when we had some work done in 2014 - it cost me £15k to fix. I'd quite like them to repay me and apologise too.
 is this true? What was the damage that cost so much to fix 60 years later?
Just being very very nosy.
For OP I can see why you were upset, I would have chuntered for weeks for something like this. I also thought it was most of a wall gone and you would be in the news. But a few chipped bricks that have now been fixed really is not worth the drama.
Years ago my next door neighbour knocked down 12 feet or so of pretty new garden wall. I fixed it myself because it was on the cusp of not worth claiming on insurance. I'm no bricky. It's still up and no one has said "my God look at the bloody ugly bit of wall " so I'm ok with it.63 mortgage payments to go.

OK, I know i was upsetting espeaciially as it was your first property and on miving day, when things wwould have been stressful.
BYT:
Compensation is about putting you in the position you would have been it were it not for the other person's negligence - sometimes referred to as 'making you whole'
You have been made whole. TW fixed the damage. You are back in the position you would have been in had the accient not happened, so there is nothing for you to claim for.
TW *might* be able to claim against RM but that's a purely private matter between them and RM, it doesn't affect you.
You wouldn't have got any element for 'upset'or distress so you haven't missed out on anything you should have had.
Would it have been nice of RM had apologised or followed up?> Yes. They may still do so. it's only been 2 weeks since the incident and it's been at one of RM's busiest times of year - Roysal Mail's complaints process say they aim to respond to complaints within 30 days - you aren't even half way into that yet.
So - maybe you will hear something, maybe you won't, but either way, you are not entitled to any compensation .
Royal Mail may take action against the driver for not having reported the accident (if they didn't) but that would be an employment issue and they would be unlikely to give you any information as it would be confidential between them and their employee.
From your perspective, the best thing to do now it let it go, and enjoy your new home. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
Also can I add to this story a key element I have missed out which is why I'm angry about the situation.
The driver drove off and left no details. I found a piece of his van on my driveway and red paint on the floor and did my detective work.
I think the disrespect is what's upset me.
You should have imformed the police?0 -

It hardly sounds as if there was much damage to the house if only three bricks were damaged.
I think you need to grow up a little and realise that accidents happen.
The damage has been repaired at no cost to yourself. You are not due any compensation as you have not suffered any loss.0 -

Thankfully, I'm not holding my breath. Welcome to the joys - and responsibility - of home ownership.
I suspect the Luftwaffe's insurer may have previously agreed with the RAF's insurer to deal with the claim on a knock-for-knock basis, in view of the damage the latter did to Dresden..0 -
Thank you for all your advice.
I'm new to this forum and appreciate your help.
Something small, funny and insignificant to yourself (such as small damage) can be much more significant to someone else.
I spent many years saving for my house deposit and I cant help to feel upset that someone drove into my hosue and then simply drove off without any due care. Yes I know that's life but I feel like it's easy to laugh at this happening to me but would you be laughing if this happened to you? I would not laugh if this happened to my neighbour. I'm very new to home ownership and was simply asking for advice.
