So intially I was going to sign up for the new card, but then changed my mind before the new card came into circulation. I have been trying to close this account now since January, have had several conversations with several people who say they have closed the account, but could not be finalised till the Cashback I had received had been returned to me..........42p. They finally credited to my Bank account, but again this month I have received the email to check my statement, Have been onto them again this morning, lets see what more rubbish they come up with. Also to add insult to injury they have charged me the £5.99 monthly fee. Thankfully I have the transcript of the last chat session with them, where they have confirmed the account is closed and any charges by them will be waived. I do hope this is the last dealing I have with this Incompetant company.
    *So an update*
They had put my account on the tracker to close, which someone did not do. I got the due to us being very busy blah blah, which set me off. I said don't talk to me about being busy, I am frontline NHS and am cuurently spending my time making sure my team is kept protected and safe in these unprecedented times :/
The upshot of the call was they have raised a payment complaint on my behalf as this will be dealt with in 14 days. Lets wait and see eh. I have absolutely no confidence in this company anymore. They are a shambolic company.

    FYI:
My account is closed. I received my 2 refunds within my statement so that was good - immediate return, not the up to 5 days I had been quoted by "the store refunding me".
I do miss the notifications but that just means I am in the same position I was pre-Tandem.
Shame they couldn't make it work

I kept it, mainly for the 1.5% account (which, weirdly came up at 0.5% to start with, and then when I queried it, has been updated to 1.47%!  Almost there, one more support request should fix it!).

I work as airline crew, so do spend abroad often.  Monthly spend is in the region of £1000-£1500, maybe a third of that abroad.  So I guess cashback of about £2-£3 a month.  I do also withdraw cash abroad, so the zero load and zero interest on cash withdrawals appeals to me.  In terms of the linked savings account, the plan is to max it out.  I already have a Marcus Account (1.3%) and a Shawbrook Account (1.33%).  The difference in interest on £85k versus the Shawbrook is £144 (£85k * 0.17%) which, even after deducting the £72 card fee, still leaves me £72 better off per year (and that's before taking into account the cashback).  If they reduce the 1.5% AER, I'll probably ditch the account, and maybe the card, and look at better options.

I'm sure there are combinations of cards and accounts out there that might have me £100 better off over the course of a year, and being a higher rate taxpayer will no doubt affect my interest in ways I haven't yet worked out, but I like how widely Mastercard is accepted (Amex acceptance issues would annoy me), the instant notifications are very useful (particularly in the USA where standard practice is to take your card away to process the transaction - I often get the notification before they've even brought the receipt to sign), and I like the app in general too.  So Tandem ticks enough boxes for me to be worth keeping.  That's not to say it's perfect, and to those who are happy to put the time in to find better deals, good luck to them.  For me, it's a balance of cost vs stress, and I don't mind paying a few quid more to continue using a service I've so far been quite happy with.

Thanks. That about sums my methodology too but I came down on the other side mainly due to lack of trust in the sustainability of the 1.5% and the extra work required to maintain debt balance on the card.  I DO use Amex in the UK when I can as I get 1-1.25% cashback and it also gives instant notifications from the app.  It is surprisingly widely accepted.  Looking at my statements it equates to about 85% of my UK card spending annually.  Tandem was my fallback and (me also being airline crew) used exclusively and a lot abroad.  The stress/faff of managing the on-card borrowing came under the heading of TFD for the perceived benefit.  I now use Capital1 Mastercard in the UK with 0.5% cashback and Nationwide Select Visa abroad.  The loss over the old Tandem is no overseas cashback and Visa vs Mastercard exchange rates.   Not too bad.

I was one of those that jumped ship (well in this case pushed) to the Aqua Cashback card. Had a limit of £1200,  now been put up to £2450. Wondering if anyone else who moved to Aqua also got an increase?
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

    No increase yet.
I also opened a barclaycard rewards card with £25 sweetener.

No increase for me, although I never expected one.
I also applied for the card as a Tandem replacement, and was only ever intended as a back up to my Nationwide card, so has seen very little use.

I was with Aqua before I took on the Tandem card. I have a limit of 5,500 with them. They have been ok, but have struggled when trying to pay hotels in the USA even when providing dates of hols and where going.

No increase yet with Aqua which is a little frustrating as £1200 is too low for us, thankfully it is only a back up to the Amex and we have a couple of other credit cards with bigger limits for large purchases, should we need it.

Tandem was good for us whilst it lasted, it'd been better with a 2nd cardholder.

I have had the confirmation that the Tandem card is closed now. I need to call to cancel the savings account that I had to set up to get the card.
  • I've tried to find the answer in the forum but I've failed.
Has anyone else had the situation that tandem doesn't give you cashback on your last statement as they produced the statement after the account closure date, therefore they are withholding the cashback as per the T&c's
I've tried to explain to them that I can understand that, if I closed the account, but you forced the closure and you chose when to produce the statement. So it's a win win for them.
Anyone else had this or point me in the direction of a post?
    Thanks
    James
  • My statement was generated on 25th Mar and I received the cashback. Payment date is in 6 days.
