Theyre already taking you to court...
their WS is a template so done, and requires them no effort at all. And theyre paid.
Tens of hours to write a WS?!
Tens of hours yes, I've already spent a few hours last night and most of today on research and I'm getting nowhere. If they choose to accept £100 I'll pay the money 100%, if not I'll have to see it through to the end and waste my precious time off on paperwork

No I've not written it yet as I'm unable to produce something adequate, and the amount of research it would take would outweigh the benefits of a win - even if the decision went that way which isn't guaranteed. I'll hold out for a settlement but will continue to look at ws's in the meantime.

    Then start.
The WS is a set of facts that you give about the events in question.
Its a really simple document to begin with.
The main benefit of winning is it costs the C far, far more.

I've been looking at some of the other ws's and they're far from simple. They're very complex and in some even discuss the size of the writing on the sign and compare it to what's outlined in the CoP. I just don't have the time or inclination for that level of research. It's beyond a simple layperson.

    OK, then give up.
    It isnt beyond a layperson.
Everyone - bar two or so here - is a layperson.

Maybe a can produce a so so ws and give myself half a chance in court if they won't settle.
I can't spend hours and hours peddling through mud going nowhere.

No, it really isn't.  We are all (simple) lay people on here, none of the regulars are legally trained (well a couple are/were but they don't post very often now) and had to learn about witness statements.  A WS is: -
"This is my witness statement in support of my defence as already filed.
Here is the story of what happened on the day
    Here is what happened subsequently
Here is the evidence backing up what I say [typically photos of signage, scan of tickets bought and paid for or scans of permits]
Here is another reason why the case should be struck out [and here you add about the Abuse of Process and why the parking company/solicitor cannot add spurious amounts - if they have.]"
Here is a link to the Abuse of Process thread and the parts to add written FOR YOU by @Coupon-mad

Copy what @keypulse did and adapt that, putting in the story of what happened/what sort of car park/why the driver thought it was ok to park and never saw the signs, etc.

The long bit about the added £60 is pure copy & paste, and can be put in on  aseparate sheet, to keep your own WS of facts shorter and easier on the eye.

It is MUCH easier than you are making it and we have never had a lay person say WS stage is beyond them.

I can understand somebody earning £££s an hour wanting to pay this off, (my son is one such), but I would remind you of Pastor Neimoller's poem, "First they came for the socialists ..."
