The doctrine of promissory estoppel, in it's simplest terms means that if someone promises you something you are can rely upon it.

So in your example, if the B&B owner had pointed out to you the particular parking space, you are entitled to believe what they are saying.
I see, yes it's not applicable as the guesthouse I stayed at didn't promise me the parking space I parked in. Thanks for pointing this out and making me look at the term again.

Do you think they'd accept an out of court settlement for £100? Just tried ringing BW legal but no answer. I'll try emailing

Why would you want to settle with the bunch of incompetents?

Indeed, with a fair wind you can trounce them in court.  Judges are not fools, they recognise a scam when they see one.

I've sent an email offering £100 - I'll see what they come back with

Honestly I'd rather pay this sum than spend hours and hours trawling through forums and posts trying to cobble together something I don't really understand.

Are you 'standing us down' then?

And if BWL don't accept ......?

Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

Should've started lower, say £60, if you wanted to settle at £100.

If they don't accept I'll be spending the next few days trawling through the forum trying to put something together. I really don't fancy doing that on a sunny bank holiday, even if we're in lockdown.

True I should've, but I won't be going any higher. If they want more they'll have to take me to court, and then I'll have to spend tens of hours going back over this stuff.
