    * continued writing a to do list for the week ahead
    * made sure the kids are orgainised for the week ahead
    * usual small things like, lights off, heating not on til needed - jumpers/fleeces first, microwave/alarm off at the wall
    * pop'd to mr M get loaf of bread for packed lunches tomorrow
    * went to currys to take back that gift we didn't give
    * went to the £shop to get some hair bands and a hairbrush
    * went to the library to return several items and collect about 10 more!
    * my mum gave me her really old mobile so I've looked online to try and get rid of it for her, so I've packaged it up in packaging/box we already had and will pop it in the post on the way home from the gym tomorrow

Just been having a read through the thread and getting some much needed inspiration!

I've had a lazy weekend after being ill with a cold all week, but don't feel guilty at all as it's meant two NSDs.

The main small thing I've done is set up lots of Monzo pots ready for when I get paid. Which is probably quite a big thing actually.

We also dug out 2 lots of beef chunks from the freezer which OH turned into a tasty stew with some left over Christmas wine and some dubious carrots from the bottom of the fridge. He even scraped together some dumplings from some back of the cupboard flour. Very impressed with him. He did leave all the lights on everywhere he went, but one step at a time I guess :rotfl:

    • Hello,

I've been reading this thread and thoroughly enjoy it ( I enjoy all things that save pennies :-) ) and I thought I would join in and let you know what I've been doing today.

      * I turned on my dishwasher (full) and my one daily wash load at 5.30 am in the cheap electric tariff

      * I bought YS Turkey Crowns (one dated till after next christmas ... winner) , Trays of YS Stuffing also.

      * Made whole Family (Big ones coming home) a 3 course meal of YS Carrot and Cumin Soup , YS Roast with end of there best potatoes and Carrots scraped together and finished with a bottom of the freezer dessert that needed used.

      * While it was cooking I put trays of breakfast food (Bacon, Sausages, Black pudding ect) in the bottom of oven to cook the same time and I prepped Breakfast muffins for the guys for early work starts ... Breakfast rolls can regularly cost £5 each on route and these worked out less than a £1 each ... I made 16 and frozen them .. so they just grab and reheat in the microwave , before or at work. Saving loads really. ** they don't eat them daily .. only on early starts.

      * oh , I also boiled the kettle (full) on the cheap tariff and filled my large thermos on the side ... There are two of us that drink a few coffees in the morning and so this means I only boil once.

      * Hung washing on airers

      * Used good old electric free floor sweeper upstairs instead of the hoover

      * Husband just bought (planned purchase) his yearly playstation subscription thing at 25% off ... so £37 for year ... so happy with that (Actually Low cost entertainment for the year as we don't go out much)

That's my penny pinching day ( all savings going to getting me the hell out of my over draft before natwests new fees kick in :-)

Hi I have lost my mojo, and I am running out of ideas for how to tumble on through January. But supposedly next Monday is the 'darkest' day of the year, so just 7 days.
      - Tomorrow I'll go to a revitalise run that ends in a pub - won't go to the pub though as am not buying anything.
      - Tuesday I will get a vaccine shot, cook a chili and read a book, or go for a club swim depends on various things.
      - Wednesday I will take dog out for a longish walk, as does not fancy track run.
      - Thursday I will clean house, cook crepes and watch a bit of 'the goes wrong show'.
      - Friday I'll go for a pint w colleague or go to circuit training. And go home and draw.
      - Saturday I'll run before park run, and spend the rest of the day eating chocolate on the couch, and trick ds into cooking dinner!
      - Sunday I will try to do something w ds or just do more drawing.

And then on the darkest Monday I'll bring a nice big cake into work to cheer everybody up. And get me a few brownie points. The should all be fairly MSE proof measures against the evils of mild winter darkness. Getting ready to turn the ferry and sail off in to the dawn of spring, light and rising energy.
