Where does the time go?
been so long since I have been on here accessing from my mobile phone!
was trying to work out how to get onto a new thread and have absolutely no idea as to how.
what was once a task I understand now I am totally forgotten!
I was with Biggest at Mums house today, starting to clear out some of Mums things.Became more emotional than I was expecting as I came across my brothers after shave in one of the kitchen cupboards I was t expecting that, and it knocked me for six.
Biggest and I inherit Mums house, and she would like to buy my share of it.I don’t want to live in it. Twin2 and DGD are settled with me in the town we live in.
we were about to work out the logistics etc of Biggest getting a mortgage and the like possibly sharing with her BF, etc.
First her back degenerative disease flared up and she is currently off work and not sure of her work status in the ability to apply for a mortgage. Then just to keep her BF out of the picture, his job said he would be dropping to a 3 day week! Definitely not a time to be applying for a mortgage. ( in fact none of the staff were paid yesterday when they should have been!)
so it looks like she is scuppered at the moment.
Am trying to research if we can agree for her to rent it from me, ( as housing benefits would be needed in her Universal Credit claim), and her BF will have to stay living with his parents a bit longer.I think we may have to see a lawyer as it’s complicated.
I know that if she pays me, I will loose on my Universal credit claim after my allowance of £404 is met.But if she owns 10% how does that work?
anyway that’s my February challenge to chase while we start to clear the house out. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -

my limited understanding is that you can’t generally claim housing benefits if you are renting from a family member. Also is biggest living in the property now? If not, her owning a share of a property could affect her benefits. Same goes for you - if you own property it will affect your claim.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. But don't panic about the house ownership yet: you don't own it, it belongs to The Estate. So until you receive your respective shares, your benefit claims are not affected.Signature removed for peace of mind1

It’s a night mare.
both of us rely on housing benefits, we can’t both live in it. Our families are too big.
it will be a squeeze for biggest as it is. But we are still waiting for probate, and of course clearing it out.
just trying to make sure we don’t fall foul of anything. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.1 -

Anyway, you may find it useful to have both kind of valuation, because if it takes a while to sell, there may be a variation up or down from the value you declare for Inheritance Tax, and if it goes up there can be Capital Gains Tax implications.
Don't want to confuse you too much: there is a marvellous Death, funerals and probate board where it may be worth posting specific questions.Signature removed for peace of mind0
