Some points that may be worth repeating as the Tiger is being discussed.

You can have the Regular Saver - Issue 3 in addition to the Tigers Regular Saver. The interest rate on the former is 1.5% variable (as has been said) but its advantage is that you can make two withdrawals in an interest year (to 31 January) whereas the Tiger doesn't allow any. More than two withdrawals means 0.10% interest.

More than one deposit can be made to the Tiger in a month but the maximum is £250. Obviously the earlier the better! You can also miss as many months as you like.

An effort is made to get you interested in other stuff (standard behaviour these days) and anything personal you say will be recorded. With your permission of course and you have the chance to check it and have it removed or changed.

It was a pleasant meeting and I got chatty!

I was in branch yesterday and they told me 1.5% on £500 PCM out today.

£250 on the facts sheet I got in a branch today. The maximum payable into the account is stated as £750,000. Really!

Many of us wont choose between them and take out them both to add to upwards of 8 other regular savers they already hold with Notts.

The RS3 (and RS2 and RS) all have similar terms for deposit and withdrawal and can still be deposited for those who already hold them. Only their rates and deposit amounts vary.

The distinction between these and the Tiger, Special Saver, Sportsaid etc etc and the other five or so Notts RS accounts many of us hold are that these (those in this para) are fixed term.

    Just thought I'd help clarify.

Received Chorley Building Society letter today stating that the interest rate on the Regular Saver Issue 1 (which was closed in September 2016 to new deposits) will drop from the current 1.75% to 1.25% on 18 Jan 2017.

Today I opened the branch based Virgin Money regular saver, http://uk.virginmoney.com/savings/find/regular_saver_issue_1/overview/
So now have £750 a month at 2.25% better then the rates offered in bank accounts now, also using some of the funds that used to go to Leeds when they make it a closed issue...

I got a free coffee, box of chocolates, a croissant and a good chat with the advisor, quick and painless opening procedure and she knew I had two regular savers online already, she also told me there is cash back on their travel insurance of £25 and 23 months interest free on their credits cards.

Now to move the money from my club lloyds account ready when the rate drops on Sunday :-(

    Thanks for the heads up...

How long did it take to open in branch? I've got an appointment booked for next week to open one and they have suggested it will take c45 minutes! Surely not!

Apart from taking all your details, checking them against what they use to check them against, they are bound to suggest a will, estate planning, investment advice, a mortgage, a loan, house insurance and so on. Even though you will fend them off politely it does take time. There is also the off-subject chit-chat which if the interviewer is personable and pleasant is sure to draw you in.

That's what happened at the Nottingham on Wednesday anyway. Mine took the best part of an hour.

Plus with Virgin you may be told - in detail - what a Virgin lounge has to offer!
