Our family threshold for opening a regular saver used to be 3% and above. Following Santander's announcement today, we've decided to lower it to 2%.

Looks like we will be opening another TSB Monthly Saver then...

Got a letter from Yorkshire BS this morning about their interest rate review. Delighted to see no change to the original (Issue 1) Regular Saver - still 3.75% (including the 3.5% bonus). Don't know how they can afford it!

The bonus is a fixed one so it cannot be reduced - but I suppose they could close the account.

I wonder how many people still have this Regular Saver?

Was it possible to have issue 1 and issue 2? The issue 2 which I've got has dropped to 2.75% but still pretty good in the current environment.

If the base rate drops again by less than 0.25% then I can see them reducing the 0.25% interest (i.e. the bit without the bonus) on the issue 1 next time round.

The bonus is fixed, but they could have reduced the basic rate to .01%

I'm guessing not many people have this account, although I know a lot of long term subscribers to this thread (and its predecessor) have them.

    .

I opened both Issue 1 and Issue 2 at same branch, subsequently said was supposed to be maximum 1 per sole account across all Issues.

I have been allowed to retain both Issue 1 and Issue 2 :j

My Santander Regular Saver issue 2 is still open. The first standing order payment went in the day after the account was opened. I don't envisage there being any problems receiving the full interest on either issue.

Two things bother me about going to the effort of trying to open a second Regular Saver (I have Issue 1). I would enquire first from my Select man.

    1. The interest rate is variable and 2. when I opened my Issue 1 account (which had to be in branch or on the phone - I did it on the phone) I had to suffer an hour of the most in-depth search into my personal life ever. And I have accounts, credit cards at Santander and I'm a Select Customer. The T&Cs of Issue 2 show that the requirement hasn't changed.

Chanced upon a branch of Marsden Building Society this morning. They have just started a Regular Saver paying 1.8% on £250 per month for 12 months. You have to be an existing customer, I didn't ask what with. Not online either. Deposits by SO.
