Interesting.
I've opened accounts with them over the years including their sports saver recently and haven't really experienced cross selling issues.
I'm just going on what said would be covered at the appointment. She specifically mentioned house insurance. This may just be because I'll be a new customer to them though. If you're already one then you may be able to open it immediately.0 -
A heads up on yet another offer from the Nottingham Building Society ...
They are offering a 3% reg saver ISA (Starter ISA Issue 6) into which you can pay up to £1270 a month. The implication is that the rate is only until the end of this tax year, but its not explicit about that.
I went into a branch today to try to open one but I have to go through an appointment (i.e. sales pitch for cross selling) next week before I can open it.
Only 3% but being a cash ISA it could be very useful for anyone exceeding their PSA.

Possibly but wouldn't have thought so.
I had to book an appointment for my last account about a month ago, though they managed to get me in in the same day due to a cancellation.
They'll probably just ask you to fill out some questions or do a for, with things like insurance and other financial products. You can decline if you want, but it's the same as opening online, when you are asked about your other habits and financial needs and requirements.
Interestingly the guy at the last appointment didn't try to sell anything but was new to them; he'd been laid off from a payday lending firm and when I suggested that must have been depressing he said not really, many of their clients were if the bmw, executive housing type, higher rate taxpayers who were just disorganised and paid the price for their lifestyle.0 -
Hi All,
I have had a M&S Current Account for 18 months but have no Direct Debits. The T&C say I need 2 direct debits for the monthly saver. Anyone know if this apples to new current accounts only?0 -

See post #5 in this very thread, specifically the "special conditions" section for the M&S monthly saver.
Before you can OPEN a monthly savings account you will need to have switched a current account to M&S and have 2 DDs set up on your M&S current account.0 -

So unless I set up 2 DDs on my current Account, then I cant open it?0 -

You must have switched a current account that you held with another provider to your M&S current account through the Current Account Switch Service; and
You must have a minimum of two active Direct Debits in place from your M&S current account.

I spoke to them on the phone at the beginning of April when my previous Regular Saver matured. I was told that if I opened another Regular Saver before 5 April that would be alright and there was no requirement for any Direct Debits. When it matures in 2017 I will close both that and the M&S Current account as I do not have two 'spare' Direct Debits. To Dare is To Do:beer:0
